Pitts, who was recently married, Mrs. • W. E. Marse and Mrs. R. A. Ste phenson entertained at the Marse home on Tuesday evening. Mrs. Pitts was presented a cor sage of camellias and each guest had brought her favorite recipe to give her. Dpring the evening a salad plate was served with coid drinks. White pom poms and potted plants were used in decoration in the hostess’ home. * Sixteen Tables Play For Band Boosters Card Benefit Sixteen tables were in play on Friday afternoon at the card beh*- • efit given by the Band Boosters club at the American Legion Home. This is one of several events planned to help raise mon ey for uniforms for band mem bers. . — Gladioli, chrysanthemums and other seasonal flowers were used in table and mantel arrangements to decorate the home. During play assorted wafers and iced drinks were served by mothers of the band members who assisted with the benefit. W. A. The January meeting of the Ladies’ Bible class of the Asso- c i a t e Reformed dPresbyterian church was held on Monday eve ning at the church. Continuing a stady on “Great Nights of the Bible,” Mrs. A. B , Blakely wsa program leader. Yearbooks were distributed. During the social hour Mrs. Marvin Turner, who left this week to make her home in Cam bodia, was honored with a fare well gift from the group Sandwiches, cookies and Rus sian. tea were served by the host esses, Mrs. C. Bynum Betts, Mrs. • Hubert Todd and Miss Joan Todd. Mrs. Leake Hostess Clara Duckett Club Mrs. T. J. Leake, assisted by Mrs. Joe W. Leake and Mrs. R. W. Johnson, was hostess to the Clara Duckeft Garden club on Monday afternoon. ‘‘Pest Control” was the subject of a talk given by Mrs. H. Earl Payne, who also distributed pam phlets on the topic. A business ' session was held, after which the guests were in vited into the dining room for refreshments. Assorted s a n d- wiches and cookies were served buffet style with other party dainties and Russian tea. A cen-‘ ter arrangements of white carna tions was flanked by sliver can delabra holding white lighted tapers to adorn the table. Mrs. R. E. Sadler Entertains Club Wednesday afternoon the Study club met at the home of Mrs. R. E. Sadler. An interesting and informative program was given by Mrs. Thornwell Dunlap on cathedrals, with emphasis on ”St. Joseph- Proto” in Bargetown, Ky. She alos showed a number of pic tures. Later guests were invited into the dining room^wher^ refresh ments were served in buffet style from a prettily appointed table centered with an arrangement of fruit. White and red gladioli attrac tively adorned the living room for the meeting. Bridge Party Honors Visitors Honoring Mr. and Mi's. Jerry Gambrell, of Camp LeJeune, N. C., who were their house guests, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pearson en tertained friends for three tables of bridge on Saturday evening. Yellow and lavender snap dragons witji potted greens pret tily decorated the card rooms. During the evening a dessert course was enjoyed. Top honors for the games- went to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Plaxico, Jr. Carolina Wren Club With Mrs. Wingard The January meeting of the Carolina Wren Garden, club was held at the home of Mrs. B. F. Wingard on. Tuesday afternoon, with Mrs. F W. Caston and Mrs. T. E. McMullen, assistant hostess es. Mrs. George Watts Copeland, president, presided and called the meeting to order. After the sec retary’s report a brief business session was held. Mrs. Wingard illustrated her talk, “Beauties of Bermuda," with souvenirs and film she had collected and made on her rceent trip. Tea and dainties were served by the hostesses. ^ Methodist. W.S.C.S. Plans Mission Study February 4, 5, 6 The Woman’s Society of Chris tian Service of Broad Street Methodist church, is sponsoring a study course “Mission: U S A.,” by James Hoffman. The course will be held on three dates, Feb. 4, 6 and 8, from 3:30 until 5:30. The first,. Mon day, the 4th, to be at the home of Mrs. T J. Leake; Wednesday, the 6th, at the home of Mrs. Roy Cas que; and Friday, the 8th, with Mrs. George H. Hodges. “Mission: U. S. A ," is a study of the techniques, being used by churches to meet the nation’s problems and will include such topic's as “The Family," “The City,” and “Moving Americans.” Mrs. Lewis Pitts; secretary of missionary education, is directing the program, with the following as leaders: Mrs. Julian Bell, Mrs. Roy Gasque. Mrs. Allie Simmons, Mrs. J. V. Edwards, Jr., Mrs. Wil- mot Shealy, Mrs. D. B. Smith and Mrs. Murphey Timmerman. Shrubbery Is Topic For Club Program Members of the Yellow Jas mine Garden club, who met Mon day at the home of Mrs. Noland Suddeth, heard an interesting program on shrubbery. Mrs. William Johnson discussed evergreen shrubbery and Mrs. R. M. League flowering shrubbery. Kollowing the program the host ess and co-hostess, Mrs. G. A. Purton, served a salad plate with hot punch. For the occasion the' hsotess’ living and dining rooms were at tractive with air-angements of pink carnations and gladioli. Grqy-Frye Rites Announced The Rev. and Mrs. James Som erville Gray, of this ' city, an nounce the marriage of their daughter, Emma, to Mr. Joseph Craig Frye, of Charlotte, N. C., on December 31, 1956, York. S. C. Mrs. Frye attended Converse college two years and recently has been a student at Presbyte rian college. Mr. Frye is a grad uate of Presbyterian college and is attending the Medical College of the University of North Caro lina. After February, 1 the cou ple will live in Chapel Hill, N C. Sunbonnet Club Has Club Flower Show At a meeting at the First Bap tist church oh Monday evening 1 members of the Sunbonnet Gar den club held a flower show for the club. Mrs. Van Jones was chairman for the “make believe" show for which each member had brought an arrangement- These were judged by Mrs W\ W. Harris, Mrs. Marshall W. Timmons, the hostesses. , Nancy Arrington Celebrates Birthday On Tuesday, Jauuary 22, Nancy Arrington was honored on her eighth brifhday.With a party by her aunts. Misses Kthryn and. Margaret Blakely, at Providence school. During the afternoon several -movie comedies were enjoyed. Later the guests were invited in to the dining room where they listened to records and delightful refreshments of individual icdU cakes with candles and ice cream were served. Centering the table which carried out the green and white color scheme was a huge birthday cake with eight tiny glowing tapers surrounded by souvenir horns, candy and gum. Plaxico, Jr. Announcement was, made that in February the club will place arrangements in the Garden Club center at Belk s.
