Bell en tertained with a family Christmas dinner on December 23 at their home on Elm Street. Here for the occasion were Mrs. George Bell, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bell and daughter, Marya; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bell, Elberton, i Ga.; Mr. and Mrs. George Dee Bell and sons, George and Frank, of Abbeville. •— Lewis-Bradshaw Rites Announced Miss Mary Jim Lewis of this city and Jerry Lee Bradshaw of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Fort Carson, Colorado, were married on November 29 in Laurens. Mrs. Bradshaw is tire daughter of Mrs. Pearl Lewis of this city and Mr. Bradshaw is the son of Mrs. Winnie Mulkey of Chatta nooga. Family Supper Given'at Club Mr. and Mrs. Marion Milam were hosts during the week for a family supper at the Country club assembling a number of relatives here for the holidays and several additional friends. Red berries and greenery were attractive on the buffet supper table. Elsewhere in the club were the beautifully decorated tree and other holiday arrangements. On the mantle, which was banked wityi cedar, were large white can dles and pine cones. Mrs. W. L. Corbett • Entertains Club Mrs. W. L. Corbett entertained members of her Tuesday, card club recently for a dessert bridge at her home on Young Drive. Two tables were appointed for refreshments after which a num ber of progressions were enjoyed. Mrs. Harry F. Lowman, Jr. made top honors: Seasonal decorations including evergreens, bright berries and tapers made an appropriate set ting lor the galnjes. ^ Penney Employees Are Entertained Employees of the J. C. Penney Company and their guests were ♦ entertained on Thursday evening of the past week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Corbett. A buffet supper was served and small tables appointed for the fif teen guests. During the evening gifts were presented from the Christmas tree. Native greens in terspersed with candles and holi day ornaments made a festive set- Ung for the party. Holiday Drop-In Entertains Friends Miss Frances Winn, of Atlanta, who was at home for Christmas. 1 entertained a few friends with a, holiday drop-in on Monday eve ning at the home of her parents. — Mr. and Mrs. Carlton F. Winn. — H During the evening fruit cake, coffee, candies and nuts were served. The entertaining ..rooms were lovely with poinsettias, white viburnum and the decorated tree. A lovelor Christmas cover was f used on the dining table with a centerpiece fashioned of tapers, cedar and berries on a white base. Supper Party For Out-of-Town Guests Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Baldwin, Mr. and Mrs. Murphey Timmer man jointly entertained a group of friends with a supper party on Saturday evening in the private dinner room at Roddy’s. A miniature Christmas tree, flanked by holiday fruits, adorned the buffet supper table. Later dancing was enjoyed. Out-of-town guests included Mr. and Mrs^^Ed King of Moul trie. Ga.; Mr. and Mrs. Allen Draughon of Warsaw, N. C.; Mr. and Mrs. Allen Knight of Belton; Major and Mrs. Jim Davis of Charlotte, N. C.; Lt. Col. and Mrs. A. J. Katzburg of Mobile, Ala. Has Bridge Chib Afternoon Party Wednesday of • the past week Mrs. Thomas Baldwin was hostess to members of her club for morn ing bridge games and luncheon. Mrs. Frank Ramage and Mrs. Harry Baldwin were winners of score prizes. In the aiftemoon Mrs. Baldwin and her sister, Mrs. Murphey Tim merman. entertained with a bridge party. Salad and sweet courses were served following the games. Awards for scores were presented Mrs. Harry McSween and Miss’Cornelia Harris. Berries and greenery banked the mantle of the hostess’ home and other decorations included holVy and Christmas' ornaments. Cruickshanks Has \ Long Service Record With Local College Alexander Cruickshanks^ who recently resigned as instructor of economics at Presbyterian col lege to accept the position of per- sonrtel director with the Monarch group of cotton mills at Union, was the subject of a recent ar ticle in The Blue Stocking, col lege newspaper. Mr. Cruickshanks, who was well known in the city generally, as well as at the college, has many friends who will be inter ested in the story: “As a graduate of PC. Mr. Cruickshanks has served offic ially and unofficially in a loyal and dppendable manner., Not only did he set a precedent among professors but as a student also, holding the position of president of the student body for the years 1942 and 1946. “He was a brother of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, Blue Key Honorary 'Fraternity ‘Sfid' was *1- so selected for Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universi ties. He served on the Student Council for four years. . “While an instructor the col legiate-looking p r o f e s s o r has served as advisor for the Inter national Relations club. Student Christian Association and finan cial helper for Pi Kappa Phi fra ternity. “Besides school activities,. Mr Cruickshanks has served as pro gram chairman for the Presbyte rian church and Florida Street School Parent-Teachers Associa tion. “Easily recognized by his crew cut. collegiate clothes, and warm sincerity, Mr. Cruickshanks has attained a high degree of close ness with the present student body. Baker, invited a number of their young friends, including sev eral from out‘of town who were here for the holidays, for a “drop- in on Sundaty afternoon. Refreshments were served buf fet from the dining table which was beautiful with red carnations in a silver bowl flanked by silver candelabra holding white tapers. Mrs. David S. Cook served punch. Other decorations included the lighted tree and arrangements of red gladioli in the Living room and poinsettias in the music room.
