Dr. Stevenson Speaks at UDC Meet The October meeting of the Stephen D. Lee chapter. United Daughters of the Confederacy was held on Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Hugh Simpson. As sisting as hostesses were Mrs. H. L. Robertson, Mrs. J H. Stone, Mrs. Jasper Rowland and Mrs. E. B. Sloan. Mrs. Frank’" Mifler presided over a short business session. Dr. John W. Stevenson, of the Presbyterian college faculty.' was the guest speaker on “Southern Literature.” Following the program a social hour was enjoyed and the hos tesses served hot punch, sandwich es, cheese straws and cookies. Owens was hostess to the Study club at her home on Maple street for the first, fall meeting. Mrs. H. E. Sturgeon gave an in teresting program on historic California Missions and showed a number of pictures. Mixed fall flowers, including dahlias, were placed about the living room. Late in tjie afternoon refresh ments were served. Miss Mar garet Bell, of Staunton, Va., was a guest Lovely Luncheon On Wednesday Mrs. M. A. Macdonald and Mrs. L. H. Lee entertained beau tifully at luncheon on Wednesday at the Macdonald home on Broad street. Throughout the home roses in shades of pink to red, gladioli and blue asters were used for decora tion. Guests were invited into the dining room where luncheon was served in buffet style from a pret tily appointed table centered with shaded pink roses. Garden Club To Sponsor Flower Show The Yellow Jasmine Garden club of this city, will hold a flow er show on October 23 at the home of Mrs W. G. King, 106 W Centennial street. This is the second show that the club has sponsored. Hours will* be from 3:30 c until 5:30 artd the public is cordially in vited to exhibit and attend. A small admission will be, charged to defray expenses. Further information may be obtained from Mrs. James P. Sloan, the flower show chair man, or other members of the club. Schedules will also be avail able at the Garden Center at Belk’s. Miss Tribble Given Shower Miss Louise Tribble, bride-elect of next month, was honored with a miscellaneous shower Friday evening by Mrs. Bob Plaxico. Spider lilies were attractively arranged in the living room. During the evening several ap propriate bridal games were play ed,- after which lime sherbert, punch and cookies were served. The honoree was presented the gifts and also a chrysanthemum corsage in a novel way. Mrs Ed Wills, of Williamston, end Mrs. David Tribble, of Win ston-Salem, N. C., were out of town guests. B<SPW Area Dinner Meeting Here About seventeen members from the Clinton Business and Profes sional Women’s club chapter at tended the Northwestern area dinner meeting including the Laurens and Greenwood clubs, held on Tuesday evening at Blaz er’s restaurant on Lake Green wood. Mrs. Ann Collard, state first vice-president, of Rock Hill, was guest speaker and gave a talk on the subject, “How Well Do You Get On With People?” The Clinton president, Mrs. Leila Johnson, presided and serv ed as toastmaster. The area di rector, Miss Corinne Green, of Simpsonville, a member of the Greenville chapter, brought greetings. Mrs. Stokes Hutchinson, of Rock Hill, state music chair man, led in group .singing Miss Evelyn Burnett, of Green wood, presented a gift to Mrs. Collard and Mrs. Eula Bolt, presi dent of the Laurens chapter, gave Miss Green a gift in behalf of the group. A .number of door prizes pre sented by the merchants of Clin ton, were given those attending. Faculty Dinner Thursday Evening ^ A dinner for the faculty, admin istrative staff and their families of Presbyterian college was given on Thursday evening at the First Presbyterian church dining room. A covered dish supper was served buffet to about one hun dred and fifty. ‘Decorating the room for the occasion wefre dah lias and Japanese posnsetfias .The event is sponsored annually by the College Dames. Officers of the organization are Mrs. F. V. Smith, president; Mrs. Alex Cruickshanks, vice president; Mrs. Lewis Hay. secretary and treasur er. * United Lutheran Women In October Meet The October meeting of the. United Lutheran Women of St. Johns church was held on Mon day evening at the home of Miss Lois Blakely with Mrs. Louise Bundrick as co-hostess. Mrs. S. P. Bowers presented the program on “Americans On the Move.” Later a social hour was enjoyed and the hostesses served sandwiches and punch. On next Tuesday evening mem bers will join in a Home Mission Study class at the Atonement Lutheran church in Laurens.
