Mrs. Dillard Fetes Two Visitors Here Honoring Mrs. Ken Bogle of Marietta, Ga., and Mrs. John Pitt man of Rockingham, N. C., who are visitiiig here, Mrs. L. B. Dil lard was Jhostess to thre e tables of bridge at her home on Friday afternoon. Blue and pink hydrangeas com bined with pink gladioli over a cutwork and lace cloth were at tractively arranged on the din ing room table, and elsewhere daisies combined with feverfew and other summer flowers were used. The honor guests were present ed gifts and score winners were Mrs. Pittman, Miss Lillian Dil lard and Mrs. Hugh Jacobs. A salad course, sandwiches, sh^rbert, cookies and iced tea were served later in the after noon. Assisting in entertaining were Mis Lily ^Jdrhprough and Miss Emily Dillard of Greenville. At this time the bride pre sented her gifts to the attendants. The buffet luncheon table was beautifully appointed in a pink and white motif. Satin ribbons extended from a central floral ar rangement to fashion the table decoration. Other Bridge Guests Entertaining members of her card club and additional guests, Mrs. E.' N. Sullivan was hostess for bridge on Tuesday afternoon of the past week. Gladioli and roses were used in decoration for the card rooms where <a number of games were en joyed. Later the hostess served a salad plate and iced drinks. Score winners were Mrs. J. F. Jacobs, Jr., Mrs. Edward Ferguson and Mrs. Ben Hammet. Dinner Party For Bride, Groom-Elect Honoring Miss Joan Ray and James Frank Brown whose wed ding took place last evening, Miss es Rose Moore Nettles, Nancy Simpson and Marjorie Mills en tertained with a dinner party or. Monday evening at the home of the former’s parents. Mr. and Mrs Harry Nettles. Place cards in a wedding motif marked the places for about lb guests at small tables on the porch and living room. Two heart shaped cakes with the names ‘Joan and Jimmy” encircled with greenery and flanked by white tapers in silver holders formed the decora tion for the buffet supper table. In the living room floral arrange ments were in shaded yellow and bronze. Mrs. Bohn Glover assisted Mrs. Nettles in serving. Mr. and Mrs. Monte Cook who were recently married were hon ored guests and were presented a gift of china. Miss Kay McQuage, of Clio, was an out-of-town guest for the par ty. _ Mr. and Mrs. Brown Have Silver Anniversary Celebration June 21 On Thursday evening, Mr. Mrs. R. H. Brown were hosts for a lovely reception at their home between 8 and 10 o’clock celebrat ing the silver anniversary of their wedding. Guests were greeted at the door toy James D. Brown, of Newberry, brother of Mr. Brown. The receiv ing line was composed of Mrs. Ralph W. Hembree, Jr., and Mr. Hembree, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brown, Mrs. C. M. Folk, mother of Mr. Brown, and Mrs. George O. Koon, of Newberry, mother of Mrs. Brown. The entrance hall was attrac tively decorated with an artistic arrangement of white gladioli and calla Lillies. Mrs. J. E. Chandler, of Laurens, sister of Mrs. Brown, showed guests into the gift room, which was dec orated with vari-colored roses and gladioli. Mr. and Mrs. Frank D. Koon, of Charlotte, N. C., also as sisted here. Entertaining in the living room were Mrs. A ton Oxner, Mrs. John Wilson, Mrs. Cedi P. Wilson and Misses Lily Folk and Jane Locnl- nick, of Newberry. _ Ice cream, decorated cake squares and mints were served by little Jackie Hembree, grand daughter of the Browns, and Miss es Billie And Ann Koon, of Co lumbia. The table was centered with a pyramid arrangement of white gtodioh, carnations, miniature mums and white calladiums, flank ed by silver tapers on each side. White flowers were also arranged on the mantel and buffet in the living room. The guest register on the porch was kept by Miss Sara Folk, of Newberry. Punch was served in the yard by Mrs. Olin H. Lominick and Mrs. Hamilton H. Folk, of Newberry. The guests were bade good-bye by Dr. and Mrs. George S. Koon, of Columbia. Several hundred called during the appointed hours. Evans-Wicker Rites Take Place Sunday The wedding of Miss Jeanette Evans and Robert Everett Wicker will take place on Sunday after noon at 3 o’clock at the Joanna Baptist church in Joanna. Mias Evans has extended an invitation to all friends'to attend the cere mony. Luncheon For Visitor Here Wednesday at one o’clock, Mrs. R. E. Ferguson entertained with a lovely luncheon at the Hotel Mary Musgrove honoring her daughter, Mrs. John F. Beckman, of Lodi, California, who is visiting here. Vari-colored dahlias in shades of purpljB and pink were attrac tively arranged at intervals on the long tablee. A three course luncheon was served to about thirty guests. Joint Hostesses For Morning Party A lovely party was given on Friday morning by. Mrs. Hugh S. Jacobis and Mrs. Reece Young at the Jacobs home on Cedar street. Guests were invited for a num ber of morning bridge games after which the tables were appointed for hin*he<^- Awards for scores went to Mrs. Harry Baldwin, Mrs. Frank Sher rill and Mrs. Ken Bogle, of Ma rietta, Ga., who was an out-of- town'guest. Other visitors here in vited for the party were Mrs. John B. Pittman, of Rockingham, N. C., Mrs. John F. Beckman, of Lodi, California, and Mrs. L. C. Mc Carthy, of Shreveport, La. Roper, Jr, vice-pres ident of the Laurens Glass Works, was / elected president of the Lakeside Country club at a direc tor* meeting held Wednesday evening following the annual business meeting. Ralph T. Wil son, Jr., was elected vice-presi dent. The secretaryship, which is the only salaried office, ~ is presently held by James, E. Wolfe, of Cliriton. • 1 Yu.
