Local Boy Receives Honor Friends will jge pleased to learn that Roger Poore has been elected vice-president of the newly or ganized Circle K club at Furman University in Greenville. Hie Circle K club is a service organi zation similar in purpose and aim ( to the Kiwanis club. The Fur man club is made up of 26 stu dent leaders from the four class es on the men’s campus. ' Cookie Sal* Local Girl Scouts will call at the homes of Joanna residents throughout this week to sell Girl Scout cookies. The proceeds are for the benefit of their permanent summer camp. School Dental Clinic The dental clinic of Joanna and Woodson schools, sponsored by the Health Committee of the Jo anna Foundation, is now jn prog ress. Thursday, March 1, was the first day of examination and to day, March 8, the clinic will con tinue at the office of Dr. W. J. Carter on Joanna Square. Thurs day, March 15, the examinations for Woodson school will begin. Joanna Woman's Club Met Last Thursday evening the Jo anna Woman’s club met at .the Jo anna club. The business hour was presid ed over by Mrs. Lavinia Cooley, who discussed several business items. % Miss Ruth Hair introduced to the group Mrs. James Von Hollen of the music department of Clin ton high school who presented the sextette. Baptist Association Meet At Newberry The Reedy River Baptist Asso ciation mass meeting and officers council will be held at the Hunt Baptist church, Newberry, on Tuesday evening, March 13, "at 7:30 p. m. Eliminations for junior and in termediate sword drills, speakers’ I tournament and hymn festival will be conducted at 7:45 p. m. Conferences led by the associa- tional officers will follow the' eliminations. All participants and judges for eliminations are requested to meet at 7:00 p. m. for instructions. Thornwetl Boy Enlists In Marines John Mack Sweet, of Thomwell Orphanage, has enlisted in the Marine Corps for a period of three years. Sweet was sent immediately to Parris Island, Marine base near Beaufort, for ten weeks of recruit training, after which he will re ceive a Id-day leave.
