The receiving rooms of the home were lovely with decora- [ lions of the Yuletide season. I Christmas music was enjoyed and refreehments served during the party hours. Study Club Has Social Meeting Members of the Wednesday Study club were entertained the past week by Dr. Thomwell Ja cobs. Hie group motored to Newber ry where they enjoyed a three- course hot supper at the Wallace House. In addition to club mem bers Mrs. W. R. Turner and Miss Margaret Bell were guests for the meeting. Sewing Club Is Entertained Members of the “sewing club" enjoyed a covered dish supper on Thursday evening of the past week at the home of Mfs. Gary Holcombe with Mrs. Robert Johnson as co-hostess. Supper was served buffet in the dinir^ room which was love ly in candlelight. Covers were laid at small tables which were centered with pink angel candles. This motif was used throughout the home in artistic arrange ments with pink magnolia effec tive on the living room mantel. Later bridge and canasta were played and gifts were presented from the Christmas tree. Holiday Party For Tawanda Campfires Mrs. James Rutledge and Mrs. H. L. Eichelberger entertained the Tawanda Camp Fire girls on Monday afternoon at the Eichel berger home. Legion Post Has Ladies Night Event The Copeland-Davidson Amer ican Legion post members en tertained with a “ladies night” Saturday evening at the Legion Home. Wyman Shealy, Sr., command er, welcomed the guests and several out of town visitors were introduced. Dinner was served buffet. Green and silvered magnolia banked the mantel, stage, and windows. Red tapers with pine, hemlock and other Christmas ornaments adorned the tables at intervals. Following dinner, musk for square dancing was furnished by the high school band. pnMriptms It g phone 4oo»*-»x:unton. s. c* Comp Fire Groups Christmas Party The Tanda and Netoppew Camp Fire groups composed of fifth grade girls, were given a Christmas party by their leaders on Tuesday afternoon of the past week at the home of Mrs. J. B. Arnold, with Mrs. Don Copeland and Mrs. Robert. Black assisting as hostesses. Decorations for the occasion included a lighted Christmas tree, greenery with bright or naments and red tapers. A Christmas tree candle encircled with greenery and silver balls was used on the dining room table. Bingo was enjoyed and gifts presented the girls. Later hot chocolate, cup cakes, Santa and Christmas tree cookies and can dies were served. Mrs. Pitts Is Bridge Hostess Friday afternoon Mrs. J. Hen- dfcrson Pitts entertained guests for foiir tables of bridge. As a setting for cards green ery with choir candles and mod ernistic arrangements of pine with colorful ornaments in silver containers were prettily display ed. When scores were counted Mrs. Perry M. Moore and Mrs. Bryan Coates were presented prizes. Later the hostess served a salad plate, coffee and cookies. Lydia Employees Christmas Party Employees of the Lydia Mills store and their guests were en tertained on Friday evening of the past week with a supper party in the private dining room at Roddy’s. Large tapers in Christmas ar rangements adorned the tables where covers were laid for the guests. Pictures wree made of the group and following supper a number of games were enjoy ed. Jones-Croft Wedding Alexandria, Va., Dec .20—In a candelight ceremony December 20 in Fairlington Methodist! church Miss Martha Gertrude Croft of Durham, N. C., and Al exandria, and Thomas Copeland Jones, Jr., were united, in mar riage. The Reverend R. Beverly Watlyns of Alexandria, assisted by the Reverend Eben Taylor of Charleston officiated in the dou ble ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. LaVern Stables Croft of Alexandria, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Jones of Sumter, S. C. "Adopted Children's" Party Given Here Mrs. Marion Nabors entertain ed the adopted children and their mothers of this area at ’their an nual party on Saturday after noon at the Clinton Mills Com munity center which made a lovely Christmas setting for the occasion. About twenty-five guests from this city, Laurens and Newberry enjoyed the event. Refreshments were served and gifts exchang ed from the tree. Favors of Santa stockings fill ed with mints were presented the children from a tinker toy tree and the mothers received crocheted pin cushion hats. B. and P. W .Club Christmas Party Miss Norma Hallett was host ess to members of the Business and Professional Woman’s club for a Christmas party on Tues day evening of the past week at Whitten Village. Mrs. Beatrice Sloan assisted Miss Hallett in serving a delight ful buffet supper. The building was beautifully decorated in a holiday motif with an effective fireplace Christmas scene. After supper games and con tests were enjoyed with prizes being won by Mrs. Leila N. John son and Mrs. W. J. Crews. Miss Dorothy Crawford, former club president, who will be married December 23, was presented a wedding gift from the tree. Fidelis Class Is Entertained Thursday evening the Fidelis Sunday school class of Broad Street Methodist church was en tertained with a Chirstmas party by Mrs. Lewis Pitts, class teach er, and Mrs. J. B. Speake. The Pitts home where the group gathered was prettily dec orated in the Yuletide motif. Evergreens with bright colored ornaments were reflected on the mantel and a madonna with greenery and angels made an at tractive table arrangement. Charades on the Christmas theme were played. Later the class president, Mrs. D. H. De- Vinney, prseented a gift to Mrs. Pitts from the group. During the evening sandwiches, cheese biscuits, and coffee were served and assorted sweets passed. Each member brought cloth ing, food or toys for a family adopae dfor the Christmas sea son. Dr<Dp-In Given For Young Group Miss Ann and Kenneth Baker, Jr., entertained about fifty mem bers of the youngej- set on Sun day afternoon with k drop-in at their home on Hickory street. The living room was beauti fully decorated with native greens and red tapers. Three angels adorned one end of the mantel with a large red candle on the other. The colorful tree, pink poinsfettias and greenery were used in the musk room. Refreshments of punch, fancy sandwiches, assorted dainties, and fruit cake were served buf fet syle in the dining room wherg the host and hostess were as sisted by their parents, Mr and Mrs. Kenneth Baker, Mrs. J. B. Hart and Mrs. D. O. Rhame. A large white candle, white Christ mas balls and greenery fashioned a centerpiece for the table and on the buffet white tapers burn ed in silver holders. Out of town guests included Miss Emily Parker of Aiken, Miss Kay Martin of Ware Shoals Bobby Erwin and Jimmy Dusen- berry of Laurens. Couple Honored With Dinner Party Complimenting Miss Priscilla Dickson and Hugh Eichelberger, Jr., whose wedding will take place December 26, Mrs. Hubert Boyd, Mrs. D. O. Rhame and Mrs. W. R. Anderson entertained with a lovely dinner party on Tuesday evening at the Boyd home. The receiving rooms were at- j tractive with seasonal arrange ments featuring white gladioli and red carnations. Dinner was served buffet from the dining table appointed in silver and overlaid with an appliqued Christmas cover. White tapers flanked red carnations arranged in a silver bowl for the center- piece. Miss Dickson was pre sented a corsage. Place cards marked the guests’ places at small tables where covers were laid for twenty eight. After supper carols were sung. The hostesses’ gift to the honor- ees was silver in their chosen pattern.
