Lynn Cooper, Jr. During the delightfully inform al hour cold drinks, candy and cookies were served. Carrying out a holiday theme, red carnations and a gold dried arrangement were used in decorations. Colonial Employees Enjoy Holiday Party Employees of the Colonial store here and their wives wgre enter tained Monday evening by Mr. and Mrs. Van Jones and Mr. and Mrs. T. J. MoCarty. The home was beautifully deco rated for the occasion. On the man tel were reflected arrangements of poinsettlas, red tapers and gold ornaments. Elsewhere in the lav ing room were white hand-made candles with red balls and gold leaves. A miniature tree in colon ial motif adorned the dining ta ble. On the buffet was a large white candle flanked by gold gob lets with cedar and red tapers. Small tables were appointed for the guests with green covers. Red ribbon extended diagonally from each comer and was tied in the center with candles and silver ornaments, which were also at each comer. Favors of tiny Christ mas wreaths with bells were pin ned on each guest. Games were enjoyed after support and gifts presented the guests. December Meeting Methodist Groups The December meeting of the Woman’s Society of Christian Ser vice and circles of Broad Street Methodist church was held jointly Monday at the church. A short business meeting was held with the president, Mrs. J. E. Merchant, in charge. After the so ciety sang “O Come All Ye Faith ful," Mrs. Thomas Owens read a Christmas sermon delivered by the late Dr. Peter Marshall. Mrs. Roy Gasque read a Christmas story “Judy’s Gift to the Christ Child.” A duet “O Holy Night,” was sung by Miss Theda Sublett and Mrs. fYank Ramage with Mrs. Lewis Pitts at the piano. After the meeting the ladies en joyed a social hour with delight ful refreshments. Episcopal Women Entertain Students The congregation of All Saints Episcopal Mission was host at a Christmas party in honor of the Episcopal students at Presbyterian college at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hart in Joanna Wed nesday evening, December 7. Mrs. Donald Schlier was chair man for the occasion with Mrs. R. M. Turner, assistant. During the evening the group sang Christmas carols. ♦ i Bridge Party i Given Friday Friday afternoon Mrs. Hender son Pitts entertained a few friends for bridge at her home on Maple street. Evergreens with berries, cand les and bright ornaments made a pretty background for the tables with a miniature Christmas tree fashioned of boxwood. When scores were counted priz es Were presented Mrs. Tench P. Owens and Mrs. Irby S. Hipp. La ter the hostess was assisted in serving a salad plate and spiced tea by Mrs. Roy Casque and Mrs. Wiknot Shealy. Mrs. Allen Hostess To Baptist Circle The Business Women’s circle No. 2 of the First Baptist church met with Mrs. Burl Allen Tues day evening. The chairman, Mrs. George Hol- sorxback, presided, and Mrs. Mar vin Manley was in charge of the program on “O Mighty Fortress Is Our God.” Taking part were Mrs. Sammie Pinson, Mrs. Lynn Cooper, Jr., Mrs. Burl Allen, Mrs R. E. Martin, Mrs. Karl Espieg and Mrs. James Reynolds. Later refreshments in a Christ mas motif were served and gifts exchanged from the tree. Miss Barbara Jean Smith was welcomed as a new member and Mrs. Jack Shelburg as a visitor. Music Pupils Have Party The piano pupils of Mrs. James Pitts enjoyed a holiday party Sat urday afternoon at her home. Nineteen beginners and advance ibeginners took part, each playing a Christmas selection. Later games were played, sandwiches, punch, cookies and candies served. Christmas Program For Music Club Members of the Clinton Music club heard a group of Christmas songs arranged by Fred Waring at the club’s Christmas party Wed nesday afternoon of last week. Mrs. Newton Jones was hostess to the cliib and for the occasion her home was decorated with ar rangements of Balsam sprays, red carnations in the living room. Chi the mantel was a pair of golden tinsel reindeer and a candle ar rangement backed by Balsam sprays. Mrs. Ed Sadler, vice president, introduced a quintet composed of Mrs. Richard Craig, Mrs. Robert Anderson, Mrs. Sadler, W. P. Ja cobs, 3rd, and Dr. John Steven son. Mrs. James Von Hollen ac companied them at the piano. A paper entitled "Christmas Customs From Ancient Lands,” was read by Mrs. Sadler. The pro gram closed with the singing of carols. Later punch, open faced sand wiches and cookies decorated in the Christmas motif were served. Co-hostesses with Mrs. Jones were Mrs. Sadler, Mrs. James L. Walker and Mrs. Heath Copeland. Linda Smith Has Birthday 'In celebration of her fourth birthday, Linda Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Smith, in vited a number of little playmates Saturday afternoon for a party at the Scout House. The play room contained a col orful tree and other Christmas dec orations. Centering the refresh ment table was the birthday cake with four pink candles. Individual cakes held a single lighted candle. Ice cream, lemonade, candies and gum were served and party favors were at each plate. Lutheran Women Monthly Meeting The December meeting of the United Lutheran Church Women of St. Johns church was held Mon day evening at the home of Mrs. O. C. Woodruff with Mrs. C. D. Kinard as joint hostess. Mrs. W. E. Merse had arrang ed the program and after a Christ mas devotional by Mrs. Henry C. Suber, a play, “What Do Christ mas Carols Say?” was given by Mrs. Marse, Mrs. Woodruff, Ger ald Woodruff, Mrs. Rhett Adair, Mrs. Lewis Bundrick. During the program piano selections were softly played by Mrs. T. M. Sease. Carols were sung and a social hour was enjoyed later during which the hostesses served am brosia, fruit cake and tea.
