Ireland, priest-in-charge of All Saints Episcopal Church, announced that the first of a series of con-j firmation classes was conducted' Wednesday evening at the rec tory. The class followed a short prayer service of intercessions in the church at 7:30 p. m. Mr. Ireland said that the pur pose of these classes which will be held every Wednesday eve ning is for the training of the parents and teachers of the Church School and for the prep aration of persons desirous of Confirmation. In explanation he said, “Confirmation, the laying on of hands by the Bishop, is not just ‘joining’ the Church. Be cause, one who has been bap tized with water in the name of the Trinity is a member at the Church. He or she cannot be ‘more’a member. But we do be lieve that Confirmation, which means ‘strengthening’ (Acts 8:12- 18), is a spiritual aid to those who receive it. Other than Bap tism, there is no specific cere mony that makes you a ‘mem ber’ of the Episcopal Church. Confirmation, however, elevates a member to a ’communicant’ standing and enables him to re ceive the further privilege of Holy Communion." r Mr. Ireland said that anyone in the community is welcome to attend these classes and that there is no obligation to be con- ; firmed.
