Vari-colored early fiall flowers of dahlias and roses were used throughout the spacious living rooms. Tiny pink and white pom pon dahlias adorned the prettily appointed dining room table. Guests found their places at snail tables centered with small pink and white dahlias. A two course luncheon was served. The honoree and Miss Sara Blakely, bride-elect of the fall aeason, were remembered with white corsages and gifts. Torrence Shealy Celebrates Birthday On Monday afternoon in cele bration of his 4th birthday Tor rence Shealy entertained about thirty-five little friends. His mother, Mrs. W i 1 m o t Shealy, Jr., was assisted in en tertaining and serving by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Shealy of Columbia, and Mrs. Chris Adair, Jr. The refreshments table was prettily appointed with the pink and white birthday cake. Ice cream, individual cakes, and punch were served. The plates also held candies and novelty favors. i • Drop-In Given For Miss blakely Honoring Miss Sara Blakely, autumn bride-elect, Miss Cath erine Eichelberger entertained wiht a seated tea at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs H. L. Eichelberger Wednesday after noon. Red and pink roses were at tractively arranged in the living room Guests were invited into the dining room where a salad course, sandwiches, chips, and brownies were served Assisting in entertaining were Mrs. H. L. Eichelberger, Mrs. W. R. Ander son, Mrs. D. O. Rhame and Mrs. B. H. Boyd. + < Miss Blakely was pfesented a corsage of pink rosebuds. Blalocks Entertain Clinic Staff, Guests Dr. and Mrs. George R. Bla lock recently entertained mem bers of the staff at Blalock clin ic and their guests with an out door steak supper at their home honoring Miss Nell Fuller. Miss Fuller, who has been a staff member at the clinic, left this week to accept a position in Greenwich, Conn. Steaks were cooked on the outdoor fireplace on the back lawn and served with other pic nic foods. About eighteen guests enjoy ed the occasion including Frank Grobb of Vancouver, who was visiting Dr. D. E. A sweet course was served when the guests assembled and later during the progressions cold drinks and candies were passed. Geraniums and African violets made a pretty background for the two tables. Mrs. Cecil Wilson, a club visi tor, and Mrs. L. A. Blakely were prize winners. Supper Given For College Students On Tuesday evening of the past week the Women of the Church of the First Presbyterian church feted the Presbyterian members of the freshman class at Presbyterian college. After supper Mr. and Mrs. James Von Hollen led in group singing find Ray Lord rendered a number of piano selections. A number of young ladies of the city were invited as guests for the occasion. Sara Glenn Circle Meets Monday Mrs. Julian Coleman, Mrs. Ray Pitts and Mrs. Bill Milam were hostesses at the home of the for mer on Monday evening to mem bers of the Sara Glenn circle. A social hour was enjoyed and the hostesses served a salad plate, cold drinks and cake squares. Mrs. J. E. Merchant explained the “Prayer Card” which mem bers were asked to sign. The program, arranged by Mrs. J K. Haselden, was from the booklet, •To The Ends of the Earth. H Those taking part were Mrs. C. H. McCrary, Jr., Mrs. Thurston Giles and Mrs. J. B. Arnold. Reception Honors PC Freshmen The Student Christian Associa tion, assisted by the College Dames, entertained the members of the freshman class at Pres byterian College on Thursday evening. In the receiving line were: Dr. Marshall Brown, college prseident, Mrs. Brown, Bill Dantzler, president of the SCA, Mrs. E. H. Hall, SCA hostess, Mrs. Alex Cruickshanks, presi dent of the Dames, Dr. John W. Stevenson, faculty adviser for the SCA, and Mrs. Stevenson, other faculty members and their wives. Mrs. Hall was presented a cor sage by the Student Association. Colorful dried arrangements were used in decoration in the main lobby of the library build ing. Refreshment tables were ap pointed in the reading room where where punch, cookies and other dainties were served by the followinf: Misses Eloise Mars hall, Martha McMillian, Betty Marshall, Ann Baker, Julia Gray, Linde Ferrene, Mary Jo Sloan and Jo Ann Porter. Silver candelabra holding lighted tapers and arrangements of dahlias, roses, and other fall flowers adorned the tables A number of special guests were also invited to call during the evening Chris Patte Fetes Fraternity Members Chris Patte entertained with a drop-in party Sunday afternoon for the brothers and pledges of Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity ait the faculty home of his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Edouard Patte. Among the guests were also Prof, and Mrs. L. S. Hay and Joe Harden, of Winnaboro, with Miss Miriam Stevenson, Mias Dm verse of 1954. Messrs Hay and Harden are Alpha Sfgma Phi alumna. Marigolds, dahlias and zinnias were used for floral decorations in the reception rooms and on the porches. The dining room was dec orated with foliage, red and yel low fruits on a background of brown Mexican table cloth. Mrs. George C. Bellimgrath as sisted Mrs. Patte in the courtesies of entertaining. Bridal Luncheon Given Saturday A lovely bridal luncheon hon oring Miss Jo Ann Taylor of Greenwood and Lt. Lee Bomar of Greenville, was given at noon on Saturday at Hotel Mary Mus- grove by Mr. and Mrs. Joe Piper of Greenville, and Miss Kathryn Dicus. Miss Dicus was maid of honor in the wedding which took place Sautrday evening at Main Street Methodist church. The! beautifully appointed tables held | place cards carrying out the wed- j ding theme and the places of the honored couple were marked, with a miniature bride and groom. In keeping with the chosen motif a silver epergne filled with white flowers and greenery formed the central ar rangement. Legion Auxiliary Installs New Officers 1 ' At a meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary on Tuesday af ternoon at the home of Mrs. B. F Wingard the following new officers were installed: President—Mrs. Fred E. Hol combe. Vice-President — Mrs. Perry Moore. Secretary—Mrs. Francis Bla lock. Treasurer—Mrs. Louie Thorn- ley. Chaplain—Mrs. H. M. Young. Historian—Mrs Frank Miller. Sergeant at Arms—Mrs. L. S. Reddeck. During the business session plans were made for a project for raising money for the organi zation. Buffet suppers will be served on Sunday evenings by members at the Legion Home, beginning the middle of October The group voted to lower dues to $2.00 per year. Mrs. Perry M. Moore present ed the membership drive pro gram. After the meeting refreshments were served by the hpstess and assistant hostesses, Mrs! Blalock, Mrs. Moore, Mrs Holcombe and Mrs. Thornley.
