Sunday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Joe Phillips of Mariet ta, visited Mrs Thorp and daugh ter. ' Mr. and Mrs. Mark Windsor, Mr. and Mrs. Lindy McCauley and Ginger attended the funeral of Tony Coggins in Spartanburg Sunday. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wnidsor. Mr. and Mrs. Casey Abercrom bie and Jimmy of Greenwood, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Joshe Motte. Pvt. Ernestine Parrish has re turned to Fort McClellan, Ala., after a five-day leave with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Par rish. Mr. and Mrs. Jack White and daughters and Miss Beatrice White attended a birthday dinner honoring Boyd White at his home in Gaffney recently. Mrs. Mary Mason is spending a few weeks with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. D. T. Streetman, in Atlanta. Ga. Mrs. C. B. Sharpton and Miss Barbara Sharpton of Columbia, attended homecoming at the Ly dia Baptist church and visited friends in the community Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Ithiel Harvey and daughters visited her mother, Mrs. L. A. Hall, in Spartanburg Sunday. TTiey also visited Mrs. Bobby Hall at the Spartanburg General hospital. Ale Alan White left the past Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Birchmore and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Nelson and Leland, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Birchmore attended the funeral of their brother and un cle, Julius Birchmore, in Colum bia Saturday. Mills Mon day in Spartanburg. BYiends are sorry to know Mr. Mills is very ill. Dewey Darby, FT., is spending a 16-day leave with Mrs. Darby and daughter, and his mother, Mrs. Laura Darby. He will re port to Charleston naval base the last of the month. Mrs. Luke Abercrombie of Fountain Inn, Mrs. T. S. Bagwell, Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Bagwell and sons, Wilton and Donald, of Simpsonville, were among those here for the homecoming at Ly dia Baptist church Sunday. Mrs. Adger Crawford, Mrs. Neice Carroll, Mrs. B. Morgan and Mrs. J. B. Vanderford were hostesses for this enjoyable af fair. After games were played a party plate with cold drinks was served. Many lovely and useful gifts were presented Mrs. Johnson. Whilmoro-Thomas Wedding Friday The Lydia Church of God was the scene of the wedding of Miss Catherine Eugenia Whitmire to Junior Cass Thomas on Friday evening at 7 o’clock. Rev. Lee Powers, the bride’s pastor, performed the ceremony in a setting of fern, baskets of white gladioli and seven-branch ed candelabra. Miss Ruth Whitmire was her sister’s only attendant. She was dressed in a navy dress with light blue accessories and wore a blue carnation corsage. Hoyt Hanvey was best man. James Barre and Donald Lawton were ushers. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Whitmore, wore a pas- dress of brown and white with blue accessories fo> the ceremony which was performed in the presence of a number of relatives. Mrs. Coker is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Bilton of Augusta. Pvt. Coker is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Coker of Lydia Mills. For the present the bride will reside with the groom’s parents while he will be stationed at 1 Camp Polk, La. Union Sarvicos Planned A union service with all the churches coming together is plan ned Sunday evening, October 3, at the Lydia Methodist church to welcome the new Methodist pastor, Rev. Austin Wilkes. Joinl Meeting of Camp Fire Girls The Lewa district of the Camp Fire girls held a joint meeting Monday afternoon at the Com munity building with 27 girls and 6 leaders present. Mrs. J. B. Templeton was in charge of the business session. The group enjoyed a number of games after which refreshments of Pepsi-Cola and cookies were served. Blue Birds* September Party The Blue Birds of the Lewa district held their September birthday party Monday afternoon at the Community buildnig. Peggy Grady and Nancy Alex ander were the honorees for Sep tember. Mrs. Claude Gilstrap directed the games which the twenty-five Blue Birds and their guests en joyed very much. Refreshments were served on the lawn. The table was cover ed with a green cloth and held a beautiful arrangement of roses. Punch and cookies were served the group. Birthday Party for Daughter Saturday afternoon Mrs. Tom my Nabors was hostess at a birth day party for her daughter, Mary Ann, on her eighth birthday. Eleven little friends were pres ent to help make this a happy birthday for Mary Ann. A color scheme of pink and white was used in the decorations and in the beautifully decorated cake with the 8 candles. After an afternoon of fun the hostess, assisted by Nora Nabors, served party dainties to the group. Homecoming Enjoyed At the Baptist church home coming Sunday a number of visi tors were welcomed back. A bountiful dinner was served pic nic style after the morning ser vice. Mrs. Whitmore, mother of the bride, wore light blue with black accessories with a pink carnation corsage. Mrs. Thomas was dressed in a navy suit with navy accessories and a white carnation corsage. The young couple are making their home with the bride’s par ents for the present. Sympathy Extended The community extends sym pathy to Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Roberts in the loss of their in fant son on last Thursday. • • • Sympathy is extended to Mrs. Connie Davis and Charlie Birch- jXiore in the death of their broth er, Julius Birchmore, who pass ed away in Columbia last week. He was an uncle of Mrs. Bill Nel son and Frank Birchmore. Camp Fira Official Elected The Aowakiya group of Camp Fire girls met Thursday evening in the community building. Dur ing the meeting officers were elected and plans made to meet Monday with the other Camp Fire groups of the Lewa district. The new officers of the group are: President—Peggy Willard. Vice-President—Faye Bailey. Secretary—Linda Willard. Treasurer—Peggy Wigley. Scribe—La Don McCravy. This group meets each Thurs day afternoon at 4:30. Parrish Reunion On Sunday the annual Parrish reunion was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Claud Parrish in Hodges. A bountiful picnic din ner was served at noon. There was fifty-one guests present on this memorable occas ion. Mrs. John Word is a patient at Hays hospital with a broken an kle injury which she received in a fall last Saturday. Mrs. Word is the mother of David Word.
