announce the birth of a daugh
ter, Cynthia Denise, at Joanna
hospital on July 20. Mrs. Os
borne will be remembered as the
former Miss Elizabeth Lyons of
Joanna.
MYF Swimming Party
Members of the Methodist
Youth Fellowship and their
guests enjoyed a swimming
party at the Icoal pool Tuesday
evening. After swimming the
group enjoyed a picnic. Out of
town guests were Miss Dolly
Cruoch of Moiuvtville, and Miss
Linda Adair oft Orangeburg, and
Tommy Daviqf of the Hopewell
community.
Mrs. P. W. Turner is the teach
er of the department. Also pres
ent were Rev. Turner and Mrs.
Lavinia Cooley, superintendent
of the youth department.

Sympathy Extended
The community extends deep
est sympathy to the family of
the late Mrs. Anna Atkins. Mrs.
Atkins passed away in a Colum
bia hospital and burial was Sat
urday in the fanlily plot at Gaff
ney. Among the survivors are
two sons, Clyde and Tom At
kins of Joanna. Those attending
the funeral from Joanna were
pMr. and Mrs. Clyde Atkins, Mr.
aid Mrs. Tom Atkins, Mr. and
Mrs. Reginald Rush ton and sons,
Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Cole.
Mrs. Johnson Passes
The community was deeply
saddened Monday when news
was received of the sudden death
of Mrs. Eva Johnson. Mrs. John
son was affectionately known as
“Big Mama” to all her friends
and had just recently moved to
Anderson. Funeral srevices were
held Wednesday afternoon at Ep-
worth Methodist church. A great
host of friends gathered to pay
tribute and the floral offerings
were many.
Surprise Gathering
Saturday night Mrs. Johnny
Moore honored Mr. Moore with
a surprise birthday gathering at
their home on Blalock Drive.
The invited guests were mem
bers of the ball club, their wives
and friends. The entire group
joined Mrs. Moore in making the
affair a surprise for the honored
guest.
The appointed party table was
overlaid with an exquisite lace
cover and centered with an ar
rangement of pink carnations
and shasta daisies in a silver con
tainer, flanked on either side by
tall blue tapers in silver holders.
The cake* was two-tiered and
frosted in white with pink and
blue decoration and tiny blue
burning candles. Refreshments
consisting fo chicken salad sand
wiches, haih and cheese biscuits,
potato chips, assorted pickles, af
ter dinner mints, cake and iced
drinks were served buffet style.
Assisting Mrs. Moore in serv
ing were Mrs. Dan Kirby, Mrs.
Bill Thomas and Miss Mary Mc
Leod.
Mr. Moore received many
handsome gifts.
Mrs. Poog Honors Grandchildren
Mrs. L, H. PO»g honored two
of her grandchildren with a
party no Friday and Saturday
evenings at her home on Milton
Road.
The honorees were Miss Jean
Poag, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Calvin Poag of Goldsboro, N. C.,
and Mickey Poag, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Horace Poag of Baltimore,
Md. The young people enjoyed
gambs and conversation. Mrs.
Poag served home-churned ice
cream of various flavors, cake
and soft drinks.

liam, of Lyman, will regret to
learn he underwent surgery on
his foot at Spartanburg General
hospital Wednesday. Russell is
the nephew of Rev. and Mrs. P.

Sorry to report Mrs. Murlee
Farmer of Ninety-Six has under
gone surgery at Self Memorial
hospital in Greenwood. She is
now recuperating at her home on
Whitin St., Ninety-Six.

pital for treatment.

Taao-Aga Club News
An evening of fellowship and
fun was enjoyed by members of
the Joanna Teen-Age club Friday
evening. The group went swim
ming in the Joanna pool and
later enjoyed a watermelon slic
ing.
On Friday the group will leave
the club house at 2 KM) p. m. by
Foundation bus for a picnic and
swimming party at Curry’s Lake.
Supper will be served and the
group will return to Joanna dur
ing the early evening.
