The 1955 toll now stands 21 higher than the total for the same period last year. Chief Highway Commissioner Claude R. McMillian reiterated that the only way to bring the state’s tragic death toll down is for each individual to assume personal resposibility for traffic safety. "Strict obedience of traf fic laws every time a driver gets behind the wheel of his car is the way to make our highways safe,’’ he said. The official also reminded motorists that the pen alty for disobedience to traffic law now involves more than a fine. “Points are being assessed motorists daily under the point system law,” he said, “and these points will ultimately lead to driver license suspensino. The way to keep your privilege to drvie is to dirive safely.” Spartanburg had three traffic deaths, Beaufort county reported two. Darlington, Dorchester and Laurens counties had one each.
