No matter what fruita, vegetables or field crops he produces, a good insect control program is a necessity. High insect killing power com bined with a high degree of safety to man, animal and crop, make malathion the fastest growing insecticide in agnculture today. Already established as one of the most versatile insect killers for ftuit, vegetable and nursery crops (over 75 pests on 40 crops), it is now gaining equal recognition in the field of animal protection. In areas where flies have become resistant to DDT, dairymen are depending oa tius new insecticide to fall those resistant species inside and outside the dairy bam. Cattle and hog raisers are also using it for flies. Also. maiAtiiion controls two of the most destructive poultry psruites —• enabling poultrymen for the first time to fall both chicken red mites and northern fowl mites with only one insecticide. Prior to the development of malathion, the only insecticides which would at the tame time control aphids and spider mites and other im portant sucking and chewing insects were materials quite toxic to man mid animal. These required strict precautionary use measures. In mala thion. however, there has been developed for tne grower an insecticide that kills the same variety of insects, but as the United States Depart ment of Agriculture puts it, “is one of the safest insecticides to handle."
