Mrs. Violet King is recuperat ing at her home after undergoing surgery at Hays hospital. Grace Spoon has returned home from Hays hospital. She was injured in an automobile ac cident. Harold Crowe underwent sur gery at Greenville General hos pital Saturday. - ^ Mrs. Lewis Dawkins is a' pa* tient at Self Memorial hospital in Greenwood where she under went surgery Tuesday. O. J. Gilliland is a patient at Hays hospital. Mrs. Della Phillips has been ill at her home. Mrs. Peggy Cothran is improv ing at her home from bums she received children will meet at the church to get in line for the D. V. B. S. parade, followed by a picnic. The children are to bring lunch, with plenty of drinks furnished by the church. There it a good staff of teach ers and workers who have a well planned program. All children are welcome and urged to at tend. Registration will take place Saturday afternoon and . Monday before time for the Vacation Bible School Vacation Bible School will be gin May 30th at Bailey Memorial Methodist Church. Mrs. Arthur Hamilton is the director of classes. All children are cordially invited- Pajama Party The Camp Fire girls under the leadership of Mrs. Murry Adams enjoyed a pajama party Friday night at the Community build ing. After spending the night and having breakfast the girls re turned home. All had a wonder ful time. school to begin, at three years. Kay and son, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Motes and chil dren, Mr. and Mrs. John Brew- ington and children, Mr. and Mrs. Chestley King and daughter, Mrs. Claude Smith and son, Mr. and Mrs. Henry King. Arrives From Korea 1st. Lt. Joe Land is spending a 30-day leave With Mrs. Land and his mother, Mrs. Eva Land. Lt. Land has completed a 16- months tour of duty in Japan. When his leave expires he will return to Aberdeen, Md., for further duty. Revival Services Revival services will begin at Friendship Baptist church on Elizabeth street extension May 30 and run until the following Sunday, June 4. Rev. Harold B. Sitler of Green ville, will conduct the services. On the last night of the ser vices a homecoming program has been planned. A cordial invitation to all is ex tended by the pastor, Rev. J. R. Sipes. Extaods Sympathy The community extendi , sym pathy to J. C. Meadors in the death of his sister, Mrs. Byrd Byars. She passed away Friday night in a Columbia hospital. Russell Soys Won't Seek Nomination Washington. May 22.—Sen. Richard B. Russell of Georgia, who has been a leading Southern con tender in the past, said today he will not seek the Democratic pres idential nomination next year. Russell, who piled up a sub stantial block of votes at the Dem ocratic national conventions in 1948 and 1952, said in an inter view: “Absolutely not. I will not be a candidate for the nomination this time.” The Georgia senator, who for years has served as unofficial leader of a powerful group of Southern Democratic senators, re fused to speculate on other possi bilities, including Adlai Stevenson, the parlor’s 1962 nominee. Russell was an active campaign er for the 1952 nomination and had a staff and headquarters at the Chicago convention. ' Russell’s decision to keep out of the next contest might shift some Southern sentiment toward Sens. Lyndon B. Johnson of Texas or Stuart Symington of Missouri, al though national party leaders are working furiously to avoid any sectional splits. Sen. Estes Kefauver of Tennes see, who made a strong bid for the 1952 nomination, appears to be a willing entry again this time. But many political observers doubt that Kefauver could pickup the Deep South support that has been loyal to Russell. Dunaway, died i Monday morning at Blalock clin- Joe Robert Hudson has a birth- ic following a brief illness, day May 27. j A native of Columbia, Mrs. jimmy Braswell celebrated, a Dunaway was a daughter of E. C birthday May 23. Jerry McGee had a birthday May 21st. Mr. and Mrs. Grange Camp bell will observe their wedding anniversary June 1st. Mrs. Rufus Handback will have a birthday May 30th. S. B. Haynes had a birthday May 24th. Mrs. J. J. Smith celebrates her birthday today. v - Gary Cunningham has a birth day May 28ht. Patsy Braswell will observe her birthday May 30th. Daily Vacation Bibls School Daily vacation Bible school at the First Pentecostal Holiness church will begin Monday, May 30, at 5:30. On Saturday, May 28, at 5 o’clock all interested Theo Ellison. and Eula Rickard Longshore and had made her home in Clinton 24 years. She was a member of Bailey Memorial Method!st church. Surviving besides her husband and parents are one son, James F. Dunaway, Clinton; one daugh ter, Miss Carolyn Dunaway of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Leroy Passmore, Joanna; and Mrs Mary Johnson, Kings Muontain, N. C., and one grandchild. Funeral services were conduct ed Tuesday at 4:30 p. m. at Bail ey Memorial Methodist church by the Rev. W. R. Quinn and the Rev. Mr. Sexton. Burial was in Rosemont cemetery.
