Mr. Clark joined her for the week-end. Methodist Women Will Meet Members of the Woman’s So ciety of Christian Service of Ep worth church, will meet Tues day, April 5, at T o’clock. All Methodist ladies are invited to attend. Surprise Brthday Party Mrs. Mary Lehman was sur prised recently when a group of close friends and relatives gath ered at her home on Calhoun street for her birthday. The dining table was overlaid with a cutwork linen cloth and waff centered with the white and pink cake and burning candles. A chicken salad plate and party dainties with coffee was served. Mrs. Joe Johnson and Mrs. Evie Tinsley assisted-the honoree’s mother, Mrs. R. L. Francis, in entertaining and serving. Mrs. Lehman was presented many lovely gifts. Out of town guests were Mrs. Anne Cole and Mrs. Royal Rice of Jacksonville, Fla. Miss Fennell Honored Mrs. Lewis Thompson enter tained at her home on Blalock Drive on Friday evening in honor of Mias Janice Fennell, a bride-elect of the Easter ae son. Mrs. Pete Holley greeted the guests et the door and pinned favors of tiny silver bells tied with white satin ribbons on each guest. The entertainment was led by Mrs. Harold Murphy and was in the form of bridal games and contests. Prizes were won by Mrs. Mac Duncan, Mrs. Pat Bow ers and Mrs. Louis Murphy. The Thompson home was at tractively decorated in white gladioli, ivy and burning candles. Miss Fennell was attired in a spring model dress of beige printed crepe and brown and beige accessories. She wore a corsage of white canrations, a gift of the hostess. Refreshments of candlestick salad, cake squares, salted nuts and iced tea were served. Mrs. Ray Bragg assisted Mr.s Thomp son in serving. The honoree was showered with many lovely gifts. Sympathy Extended The community extends heart felt sympathy to the family of Wilbur H. Russell. Mr. Russell passed away on Sunday morning at Spartanburg General hospit al following an illness of eight weeks. Funeral services were conducted at Joanna Baptist church Tuesday at 4 o’clock by Rev. T. B. Aultman, Rev. J. B. Mitchell and Rev. P. W Turner. • * • Sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Frazier in the deqfh of their young son. Sineath, father of Earl Sineath, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, at Blalock clinic following a fall in Clinton on the same day. Russell At Hospital Wilbur Henry Russell, 52, died Sunday morning at Spartanburg General hospital after, an illness of eight week* and a serious ill ness of five weeks. Mr. Russell was born and rear ed in Oconee county, the ton of the late William and Sara Pinon RusselL For 37 years he had made his home in Joanna where he was employed by Joanna Mills. He recently fawved to Rt 3, Newberry, and operated his farm. Ha was a mwnhte of Bush River Baptist church and of the Old TTaaer's club, Joanna.
