Mr. and Mrs. David Roberts and daughters, Barbara and Kay, attended the funeral of Mrs. Rob erts’ grandmother, Mrs. J. C. Lane, in Griffin, Ga., Saturday. .They remained for the week-end with relatives. Miss Patsy Aten of Burwick, Pa., was the week-end guest of her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Freeman. Brenda Fay Estes will be one years old February 17 She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Estes. Then a furore broke several months ago in the state’s regional supporting the State Board of dental associations, with several Dental Examiners and one criti cizing the board. The criticism was aimed at the annual dental examination given by the board which was failed by 45 per cent of the about 60 appli cants. Former Gov. Byrnes, in his final message to the Assembly suggested the board should be revamped to give governors more leeway in making appointmnets. The State Dental Association recommends one appointee for each opening on the board, whom the governor names. A bill was offered in the Sen ate last week to revise the board and have the association recom mend three names for each board opening, giving governors a choice. At about the same time, the as sociation asked the House Ways and Means Committee to appro priate about one million dollars to build the dental school. A group of 28 Columbia den tists, with Dr. Frank W. Bradley as their spokesman, hopped feet first into the situation this week end with recommendations to their Richland County Delega tion that the state not build a dental school now, but wait until it can afford a good one and that the dental board be left alone. The issue was simple a year ago—the State Dental Associa tion told the Legislature South Carolina is shy on dentists, but can fill its need by establishing a state dental school The association beseiged the Assembly last year to appropri ate the money.
