Square Dance For Younger Group Barbara Birihelberger and Jean Arnold entertained a number of fifth grade friends on Saturday evening with a square dance at (the American Legion home. Large hearts and cupid faces were used on the stage, mantel and refreshment table with greens, berries and red tapers, to affect a Valentine setting. Henry Chandler called for square dancing and a number of games were enjoyed during the evening. Punch and assorted cookies were served by the hos tesses’ mother, Mrs. H. L. Eichel- berger and Mrs. J. IB. Arnold. College Domes Meet With Mrs. Stump The February meeting of the Presbyterian College Dames was held at the home of Mrs. A. B. Stump last Thursday evening with Mrs. James S. Grey and Mrs. John W. Harris as co- hostess. Following the business meeting Mrs. Marshall Brown gave an in teresting talk on the origin of the College Dames. Later in the evening refresh ments were served and members of the club enjoyed a social hour playing bridge and scrabble. February Meeting Episcopal Auxiliary The February meeting of the Woman’s Auxiliary of All Saints Episcopal mission was held on Monday at the church with the president, Mrs. C. W. Underwood, presiding. The opening devotional and prayer was given by Mrs. J. B. enjoyed various card games and Scrabble. Later the guests were invited into the diking room where a sal ad course with Russian tea and cookies were served buffet. Cen tering the table was a large ar rangement of yellow roses, glad ioli combined with other flowers, symbolizing the group’s color. A single yellow rose, the sorority emblem, • was used in the living room. Invited guests included Misses Hart. Minutes were read by Mrs. N<? vi Fuller, Edna Oo«t«, Sina E. IN. Sullivan, secretary and treasurer’s report by Mrs. A. B. Stump. The group decided to hold a fashion show on April 13 at the American Legion home. The president, Mrs. Dan Yarborough, presided Mrs. Sara Martin, president of the Laurens B&PW club, was an out of town visitor at the meeting. Following a business session, Mrs. Frances Warner and Mr*. D. M. Dutton were in charge of an interesting program. "King Of Hwrts" Contest At CHS In order to facilitate the fi- I nances of printing the Clinton I high school paper, The Sentinel, the business staff is currently sponsoring the King of Hearts contest. Anyone may cast a vote by giv ing one penny a vote to the nom inee or sponsor. Clubs, classes, and individual students have nom- inated the following boys as can didates in the contest: Horace Payne of sec. 8-B, George Buford of sec. 9-A, Scott Wa<ts of sec 8-C, Ike Ray of sec. 12-B, John Franklin of sec. 10-B, Doug Sal ter of sec. 8-C, Van Riser of sec. 10-D, Tommy Davis of sec. 12-A, Bill Dobbins of sec. 11-A. With members of both editorial and business staff of The Sentinel contestants the boys were intro duced to the faculty and the stu dent body of CHS in Chapel on Friday, February 4. This popular contest will end February 14, Valentine’s Day. The King wall be presented with gifts furnished by The Sentinel advertisers and will be highly entertained by talented high school students. Butler announced the selection of Chicago as a site, and said Na tional Committee members wii: be asked to approve it m a mail poll. The tentative date had been announced earlier. He said a site subcommittee unanimously selected Chicago over Philadelphia, the only other city bidding, after Chicago repre sentatives agreed to certain sug gestions made by subcommittee members. The Republican National Com mittee will meet here Feb 17 to decide on a place and date for the GOP convention. The last three national conventions of both parties have been held in the same cities.
