Carey Smith of near Laurens, visited Kenneth Trammell Sun day. Theodore Jackson visited his mother, Mrs. W. H. Jackson, in Spartanburg Monday. Mrs. Jack- son underwent an eye operation the past week. Mr. and Mrs. I. C. McLendon, James and Betty Lou visited Mrs. Thelma Walker in Mt. Vernon, Ga., during the week-end. James remained for the holidays with Mrs. Walker. Billy Motte, who has .been a patient at the Veteran’s hospit al in Augusta, Ga., for some time, is spending 15 days at home with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Motte. J. Earl Pierce of Holmes Bible College in Greenville, is spending the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. N. Pierce. Pvt. Bud Phipps of Camp Gor don, Ga., is spending a leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman j Phipps. Pvt. Phipps has been re-assigned to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., - and will leave on Christmas Day. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Lamb and R. V. Calhoun of Atlanta, Ga., were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Willard. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hayes > Mr. and Mrs. Oliver V. Hayes and Raymond Yancey of Scotts dale, Ga., were week-end visitors of the former’s daughter, Mrs. J C. Atkinson, and Mr. Atkin- I son. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Saterfield and family were recent visitors of Cleve Satterfield at the Co lumbia hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Wade Goss of El- berton, Ga., and Mrs. Dan Mob ley of Iva, were visitors of Mr. 1 and Mrs. Frank Goss Sunday. Virgil Hairston and Raymond of Greenville, and Miss Lalla Hawkins of Greer, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Hairs ton. Lee Thornburg, who has been a patient at Walter Reed hos pital, Washington, D. C., is spending several weeks with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Thornburg. He" will return to !the hospital January 7. Mrs. Sid ney Thornburg and'son have re turned to their home in Ken tucky after visiting the Thorn burgs. SHlc and Mrs. Bim Willard and son have returned from New York and will be with his par ents, Me. and Mrs. Claude Wil lard, through Christmas. They will return to their home in Mt. View, Calif., on Sunday. Cpl. Wibert Kirby of Montark Air Force Base, N. Y., is expected home today for several days. He will be re-assigned to another base when he returns. Sympathy Extended The community extends deep est sympathy to Joshe Motte and John Motte and families in the death of their sister, Mrs. Maggie Motte Grant, whose death ocrur- red Friday in Senesa after a long illness. and Mrs. Imer Bennett of Jo anna. The young couple left imme diately following the ceremony for a Florida honeymoon. Upon returning they will be,at home in Joanna. Boy Scouts Camp Out On Friday afternoon the Lydia Boy Scouts Troop No. 90, with the scoutmsater, George Fleming, went by bus to Greenwood State park for an overnight camping trip. The scouts enjoying the trip were Tony Abercrombie, Herman Burdette, Kenneth Trammell, Joe Lark, Eddie Aber crombie, Roger Whitmire, Tony Black, Stanley Alexander, Jerry and Alvin Satterfield, Billy Pace, Randall Atkinson, Gary Sprouse and Delano Wilson. Mr. and Mrs. Gaffney Entertain At the Community building on Tuesday evening Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gaffney entertained with a dinner party for those who work with Mr. Gaffney. Eighteen guests were presnet to enjoy a fried chicken supper. Later'in the evening gifts were exchanged from the beautiful tree. Mr. Gaff ney was presented a gift at this time. Drop-In Sunday Sunday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. David Roberts were host and hostess at a drop-in at their home. Around twenty-five guests called between the hours of 4 and 6 o'clock. Punch, cookies and fruit cake were served from the decorated table by Miss Kay Roberts. The receiving rooms were love ly with Christmas decorations. Christmas Party Mrs. Marvin Harvey entertain ed her Sunday school class with a Christmas party recently. Appropriate games were play ed before refreshments were served. Later in the evening gifta were distributed from the lighted tree with all receiving gifts. Attend Scout Banquet A number of guests from Lydia attended the Blue Ridge Scout Council banquet held in the new dining hall at Clemson college Monday evening. They were: Scoutmaster and Mrs. George Fleming, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Neal, lj. A. Black, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Trammell, Mrs. E. C. Burdette, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Windsor, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wallace, Guy Parrish and Miss Margaret Blakely. ^ ' With The Sick Mrs. Martha Wyatt has return ed home after several days at the Blalock clinic due to an injury of the hand received at work the past week. Stanley Hardee, Jr., of ficiated in the impressive double ring ceremony. White poinsettas, white glads and pink carnations with ivy, palms and two seven-branched candelabra made a pretty setting for the rites. The nuptial music was present ed by Miss Peggy Bennett of Jo anna, organist, and Jimmy Riser, also of Joanna, soloist. The bride wore a winter white faille street-length dress with black accessories and carried a white Bible topped with a yel low-throated orchid, i The bridesmaids were Mrs. ■Johnny Reeder and Miss Carol Mills.
