Among those presented for baptism was Mrs. Morse’s daughter, Mrs. Billy Moore. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Craven and daughter, Gaye, attended the Piedmont Interstate fair in Spar tanburg Saturday. Miss Kittie Mae Moseley and Mrs. Onnie Chisolm attended the state nurse’s convention in Greenwood last Friday. Rev. P. W. Turner, pastor of Epworth church and Toyman John Gaskin left ednesdey to at tend the annual South Carolina conference of the Methodist church held at Wofford college this week. - Mrs. Hermie Wood of Newber ry, was the week-end guest of her daughter, Mrs. Perry Lee Swygert and Mr. Swygert. Mrs. W. W. Hair, Miss Ruth Hair and Wendell Hair were Friday overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Hair in Columbia. On Saturday they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wheeler, also in Columbia. Subscribe To The Chronicle Wholesale Food Price Decline Reaches New Low New York, Oct. 13—Wholesale food prices declined for the third consecutive week to reach the lowest figure recorded this year on the Dun and Bradstreet in dex released today. The* new low of $6.44 marks the lowest point on the index since 6.62 in the week ended Dec. I, ' 1953. This week’s price com pared with $6.69 in the previous week, $6.58 last year and was II. 4 per cent above the pre-Ko- i rea mark of $5 96 On the index, which represents the sum total of the price per pound of 31 foods in general use, 10 declined, nine advanced and 12 held unchanged from the pre vious week. Murrah, Jr., Mrs. C. A. Gwinn and Ms. C. R. O’Dell. Prior to the program' a brief business discussion was held. The hostesses for. the social hour were Mrs. Jack Hunnicutt, Mrs. C. A. Gwinn and Mrs. P. W. Turner. Refreshments of a meat salad, wafers, potato sticks, pound cake and iced drinks were served. Accepts Position Mis Patsy Rowe of Columbia, spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs. Mary Rowe. Patsy has accepted a full-time position as secretary with the Palmetto Paper company. ^ y i Birthday Party Weldon Bames, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bames, celebrated his fifth birthday at the lunch period at Kindergarten last Fri day. The party table was covered with a white cloth and centered with an arrangement of mixed fall flowers. The attractively wrapped gifts encircled the flow ers. Mrs- Bames, assisted by Mrs. Walt Byars, served the birthday cake, ice cream and drinks. Each cne was given Hallowe’en favors. Guests at the party other than the Kindergarten members were little Jennifer Bames and Kathy Summers. Fellowship Meets The Epworth Youth Fellow ship met Sunday night following l the evening service at the home . of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. O’Dell. The <b first session of the “Study of The Bible” was given. During the social hour Mrs. O’Dell served assorted sandwich es, cookies and iced drinks. The meeting Sunday night, October 24, will be at the home of Mrs. Lavinia Cooley. Mr. Dar nell, 80, one of the oldest citi zens of Joanna, passed away 'Suddenly on Monday morning. He 'made his home with his daugh ter, Mrs. J. L. Clark on Sims street and had lived in Joanna for 20 years. He was a member of Epworth Methodist church. He is surviv ed by two daughters, Mrs. Clark of Joanna; Mrs. Inez Foster of Winston-Salem, N. C.; two sons, H. F. Darnell of Charleston, and Capt. Grady Darnell of Fort Bragg, N. C.; two sisters, Mrs. F. A. Stroud of Greenwood; Mrs. Annie Darman of GreenviUe; one brother, John Darnell of Saluda: 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday iftemoon at 2:30 at Epworth Methodist church with Rev. P. W. Turner and Rev. J. B. Mitchell in charge. Buriid was in McKendree church ceme tery near Gnanwood.
