Galloway, left Tuesday to enter the fresh man clam, at Lander college. Dr. and Mrs. B. O. Whitten have returned from a visit with their daughter, Mrs. Edward Slier, and family on Long Island, N. Y. Friends of the Silers will be interested to, know they have re cently returned from a trip to Holland and other European coun tries. Miss Ann Blakely, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bennie B. Blakely, will leave Monday the 13th for Columbia college where she will be a member of the freshman class. * Mr. and Mrs. J. Sloan Todd spent the Labor Day week-end in Boone, N. C., and other points of Interest in the mountains of North Carolina. — Lt. Marshall Lanter xho has been at Camp Perry, Ohio, for the national rifle and pistol matches Joined Mrs. Lanier and small daughter, Marsha Ann, here last week' at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank F. Flower. They returned Sunday to Fort Bennlng, Ga., where he is sta tioned. Miss Martha Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lowry M. Wilson will leave Monday for Erskine college where she will enter the freshman clam. Misses Tony Nelson and Mar garet Tankersley are first year students at Mars Hill college, N. C. They are daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Harwood Nelson and Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Tankersley. Mrs. Hiram Yarborough of High Point, N. C., spent several days last week with Miss Lily Yar borough and Mrs. C.'D. Yarbor ough. Mrs. D. N. Harris of Ckm- son, was also a apeod-the-day guest of the Yarboroughs during the week. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Abrams and son, Denny, of Greenville were week-end guests of the latter’s sister, Mrs. Davis R. Holland and family. Richard Lukstat left Sunday for Charleston where he will enter the sophomore class at The Cit adel He was accompanied by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry M. Lukstat (Mr. Lukstat, who holds a position in Reidavills, N. C., spent the week-end with his fam ily here. Richard was a student at Wofford college the past year Dr. John Stevenson of the Pres byterian college faculty, Mrs. Stevenson and small son, John, are occupying a residence on Wal nut street. Frank Deitz left last week to enter the freshmen clam at Fur man University. Lt. Hub Hunter of Fort Bragg. N. C, spent the week-end with his father, John H. Hunter and Mrs. Hunter. Miss Helen Anderson, daughter of W. iR. Anderson, will leave the IGth to enter the freshman clam at Queens college, Charlotte. Mr. and Mrs- Jim Buzhardt have moved into a residence on West Maple street. Mrs. Annie Giles Bailey has returned from a month’s stay with her son, Giles, in Sarasota, Fla. Captain Winn and Miss Frances Winn are guests of their uncle, Charles Callaway, in Atlanta for a few days. Dr. and Mrs. Clarence R Thayer and sons, formerly of Arkansas cojlege, are occupying an apartmeht in the Calvert house on Calvert avenue. Dr. Thayer is a new member of the Presbyterian college faculty. Mrs. C. M. Bailey and Mis. W. L. Marshall, Jr, will spend the week-end in Rocky Mount, N. C., with their daughter, and sister, Mrs. W. B. Lea. They will be accompanied by Misses Elmse Marshall and lillian Hart who will go Sunday to Richmond, Va., where they will be students at St. Catherine’s school. C. Young, Jr., on Elizabeth street with Mrs. Young presiding. Initial plans were discussed and formulated for a council ba zaar to be held in November. A report was also rendered relative to the presidents’ meet ing recently held in Spartanburg. Mrs. R. P. Swofford of Lau rens, who is to be in charge of the flowers entered in the com ing Laurens county fair, was in troduced and spoke, urging all Clinton and Laurens women in terested in flowers and thier growth and arrangement to work together to make this year a ban ner year at the fair for flower exhibits. Mrs. Swofford and Mrs. Gray Hipp of Owings, are superintend ents of the flower show for the rair. The following rules will be ob served: This is an amateur show and no professional or person making any part of his or her living from the sale of plants or flowers may enter for competition. All sections are open to resi dents of Laurens county and the surrounding counties. All specimen flowers must have been grown by the exhibi tor. The management urges that where possible all specimen en tries be named. Judges, in cases of close decisions, will favor named varieties. Large types of roses, dahlias, and chrysanthemums should be grown disbudded. Signs of re- recent disbudding will be count ed against entry. All pot plants must have been owned by exhibitor for at least three months, and the sizes of the pots shall not exceed 9 inches shall be only one plant in the pot. in diamter.
