Receives Promotion Second Lieutenant Richard Willingham of Fort Riley, Kan sas, received a promotion to first lieutenant on August 13. Lt. Willingham is expected home from Kansas with his discharge by September 6. Charles Holley Hurt In Accident Friends of Mr. and Mrs. V. L. Holley will regret to learn their son, Charles, of the Navy, was seriously injured in an automo bile accident. The family re cently received the word Satur day morning about 1:00 a. m. The young couple will make their home in Pensacola, Fla., where the groom is stationed, following a honeymoon to the mountains of North Carolina and Virginia. Boy Scout Nows On Friday afternoon 15 Boy Scouts of TYoop No. 75 left Jo anna to visit Mecklenberg coun ty council Boy Scout camp near Charlotte, N. C-» Camp Steere. The group enjoyed a weiner roast Friday night and early Sat urday morning they visited Charlotte police station and for several hours were guided and instructed in the work of that de partment. Sgt. Livingstone, who has charge of the safety program for the city of Charlotte, led the group throughout tlje visit to the police department. Following, their lakeside de votion on Sunday morning the boys returned by way of Bes semer City and Kings Mountain battle ground, arriving in Jo anna at 5:30. The new Boy Scout year starts in September and the financial goal is to raise enough money for the entire troop to take a long trip. Charlie Coleman is recuperat ing at his home on the Whitmire highway following surgery at the Baptist hospital in Columbia. Mrs. Thelma Crolley under went surgery at Joanna hospital on August 18. Mrs. Ola Murrah was hospital ized several days last week for treatment at the local hospital. Mrs. Betty Johnson was a pa tient for treatment at the local hospital several days last week. Mrs. Iva Smith is a patient at! Joanna hospital following sur gery. Mrs. Ella Buchanan is a pa tient at Joanna hospital follow ing surgery Mrs McNeal Trotter was ad mitted to Joanna hospital for treatment on August 20. Baby Michael Bolt, son of Mr and Mrs B. C- Bolt, was dis charged from Joanna hohpital on August 22 after being hospital ized several days for treatment. Raymond Hamilton and Wil liam Watson of the U. S Army, received emergency treatment at the local hospital on August 21 following an automobile acci dent. Later they were trans ferred to Fort Jackson hospital. Happy Four Entertained The Happy Four quartet, con sisting of Misses Rachel Mor gan. Willie Mae Murrah, Shir- lene and Loretta Tucker, were entertained by Mrs. Mary Rowe at her home on Pickens street re- j cently. The small table was rolled into his room, covered with a cutwork cloth and centered with the decorated birthday cake. The cake wa» topped with ten burning candles and the numerals 78 in gold in the middle and flanked by tall white candles in crystal holders. Those attending other than the staff were Rev. J. B., Mitchell, Mr. and Mrs. Furman Frady, Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Satterwhite, and daughter, Ann, Mrs. G- N. Foy, Mrs. Kelly Waits and young Geo. Frady of Clinton. Hollams-Wright Miss Geneva HeUams, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Capers Hel- lams, and Jack Rudolph Wright, son of Mr. and Mrs Luther Wright, of Joanna, were united in marriage in a simple and im pressive ceremony at the Union Baptist church near Hickory Tavern on August 21. The bride’s pastor officiated using the double ring ritual before a luge num ber of close friends and relatives.
