Wilburn and Mrs. Luke Sprouse and daughter of Lau rens. Rev. P. W. Turner and John Gaskin visited Charlie Coleman Saturday at the Baptist hospital in Columbia. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh E. Brock and children of Williamston, spent several days last week with Mrs. L J. Brock and Mrs. J. J. Hawkins. Messrs. John Ross and Mike Cooley spent the week-end in Columbia with Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Hair. Lt. Col. and Mrs. Fred L. Ross and children left Monday for Chicago. 111. enroute to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Lt. Col. Ross will be stationed at Fort Leavenworth for several months where he will be taking special schooling. Mrs. Lester Longshore attend ed the professional training school for school lunch room operators held at Clinton high school on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Miss Marlene Lowman, Miss Lida Mae Burnett, S-Sgt. Dick Keyes of Ohio, and S-Sgt. Dick Osborne of Kansas, were Sunday dinner guests of Mrs. J. J. Low- man at White Rock. Mr. and Mrs. L. T. Lawson and son, Tommy, spent last week va cationing at Savannah Beach, Ga., and visiting the latter’s par ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Kelley in Warrenton, Ga. Mr. and Mrs. Law’son also attended the wed ding of her sister, Miss Rebecca Kelley, and Wilmer Foster at the First Baptist church in Warren ton at 9:30 a. m. on Sunday. Mrs. Richard Willingham and Mrs. Guy Prater were Wednes day visitors in Greenville. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Long shore and daughters, Dianne and Betty Zane, attended the Ale- wine reunion at Greenwood state park Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Boyce and daughter, Cherry, of Aiken, were w’eek-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Mason Rowland and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Boyce. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Weinberg, Jr., and Mrs. Ben Weinberg, Sr., of Atlanta, Ga., spent the week end with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sloan Rowland. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Palmer, Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Morris, Mr. and Mrs. Brantley Adams of Ninety-Six. were Sunday visi tors of Mr and Mrs. J. F. Mc- Carthey. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Lowman, Sr., and daughter, Ann, spent Sunday at White Rock with the formers mother, Mrs. J. J. Low- man. His father, J. J. Lowman, is a patient at Columbia hospital. Little Cherry Boyce of Aiken, is spending the week with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Mas on Rowland. Miss Dianne Longshore is vis iting her aunt, Mrs. J. D. Wes- singer and Mr. Wessinger in Whitmire. Friends of S-Sgt. Harold C. Waldrop will be interested to know his overseas mail is being returned to the states. Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Mrs George Jones and chil dren, Leslie and Lynn, of Colum bia, were Tuesday guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. O’Dell. Miss Su- anne O’Dell accompanied Lynn home for a week’s visit. Lt. Girl Scout News Friday night the Senior Scouts enjoyed a “sleep-out” party. The group hiked to the camping site on the I. M. Smith place and pitched tents and cooked suppe’-. The girls were accompanied by their leader. Miss Elaine Fran- zen, Vernon Gamer, Larry Gar ner and Shannon Long. The boys supervised the putting up of the tents, the cooking and gave helpful hints and instruc tions on scouting. The girls enjoying the outing were Misses Pat Carr, Ann Niver, Dixie Couch, Gail Morse, Mar lene Thomas, Dollie Adair and Judy Dunlap. Special Singing The Fire Baptized church will have a special singing meet Sun day afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. Among the talented singers tak ing part will be the Kelly Broth ers of Columbia. Campbell Clan Gathering At Joanna club house the fam ily and friends of the Campbell clan gathered Sunday for their annual reunion. Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Waits were hosts, the lat ter being one of the four left of the immediate family of the Campbells, the former Miss Jes sie Campbell. The table was decoarted in lavender and pink with a large decorated birthday cake with four burning candles. Each candle represented the re maining immediate family. Six ty-five guests were present. With The Sick Friends of- Charlie Coleman will regret to learn he is a pa tient at the Baptist hospital in Columbia following surgery on Monday. Mrs. Lois Hair is a patient at Joanna hospital for treatment. Mrs. Mamie Mason of Kinards, is a patient at Joanna hospital following surgery. George Frady is a patient at the local hospital for treatment. Mrs. Vera Cross is a patient at the local hospital for treat ment. On August 16 Mrs. Margaret Griffith was admitted to Joanna hospital for treatment. Strange Reunion Mr. and Mrs, Fred Bragg, Sr., were host and hostess to the Strange reunion Sunday at the picnic shelter with an attendance of fifty. A bountiful dinner was served picnic style. Those at tending were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bragg, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Smith, Palmer Bragg, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bragg and son, Wil- ford, all of Joanna Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bragg, Jr., and daughters Templeton Reunion - The family of the late David and Jamie Templeton held the annual reunion at Holly Grove Baptist church between Clinton and Laurens Sunday. Among those attending were Mrs. P. B. Mitchell, Misses Eugenia and Ginger Byars, Mr. and Mrs. Clis- by Templeton, James P. Sloan and Mrs. Mabel Moorhead. Joanna School News Joanna schools will open Au gust 31 at 8:30 a. m. The sched ule for August 31 and September 1 will be 8:30 to 11 o’clock. On September 2 and 3 the schedule will be 8:30 to 12 noon. On Sep tember 6 the regular school hours will begin with the hours 8:30 a. m. to 2:15 p. m. School lunch es will be served beginning Sep tember 6 The faculty for the schools will be the same as last year with one exception. Roy Patterson of Joanna will replace Mrs. Cruickshanks of Clinton. Mr. Patterson will be the 6th grade home room teacher and will also teach science, mathe matics and geography. Woman's Club Attends Pageant A group of members of Joanna Woman’s club spent the week end in Boone, N. C., and attend ed the presentation of the pag eant, “Horn In the West.” Among the other places of interest that were visited were Mt. Mitchell, Linville Caverns, and Blowing Rook. Scout Trip To Greenwood A group of Girl Scouts at tended Girl Scout Play Day in Greenwood Saturday. They left at 9:00 a. m. by Foundation .bus and returned in the ,afternoon. Among the activities of the day were lunch, competitive games, many sports and swimming.
