Sloan was hos tess on Thursday to member* of her club for a dessert bridge. When the guests assembled a sweet course was served after which a number of progressions were made. Mrs. Henderson Pitts made top score. Mrs. H. M. Row land of Chincoteague, Virginia who was visiting here was a club guest. Roses and zinnias were combin ed with other summer flowers in colorful arrangement for the card rooms. Mrs. Collie Gault Honored By Mother Honoring her daughter, Mrs. Callie Gault of North Augusta who is visiting her, Mrs. Ansel Godfrey entertained Tuesday morning with a bridge party at her home on 6. Adair street. Dahlias in varied colors were used in an antique tpreen in the living room. Elsewhere, red and pink roses, combined with other summer flowers were attractively arranged. Guests were invited into the dining room where assorted sand wiches, cookies, cheese straws, and soft drinks were served buffet After several progressions prizes were awarded (Mrs. Jimmy Von Hollen and Mrs. Joe McGee. Blacks Celebrate 50th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. George A. Black celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 31. They were entertained at a dinner at Hotel Mary Musgrove by their chil dren. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Black and Misses color note. The refreshment ta ble in the dining room was lovely with a bride and groom scene. The bride was placed on a pe destal with the groom at her feet while "I Love You Truly” waa played on a Swedish music box. A tracery of fern was used on the white linen cover to com plete the setting. Sandwiches in bell and heart shapes were serv ed with cold drinks and other party dainties. The hostess’ gift to the honoree was a silver compote. Mrs. Lamar Lightsey of Rock Hill, and Miss Sylvia Smith of Newberry, were out of town guests for the party. The bride- elect’s grandmother, Mrs. J. A. Dominick, of Kinards, was also a guest. Bride-Elect Feted With Shower, Party On - Saturday - evening Mrs. Alvin Gossett, Miss Lucille Gos sett and Miss Louise Gideon honored Miss Betty Ann Hem bree, bride-elect of August with a miscellaneous shower at the home of Miss Gideon in Cross Anchor. Games and contests were en joyed after which Miss Hembree was presented a shower of love ly gifts. A salad and sweet course carrying out the chosen color motif was served. About fifty of the honoree’s friends were invited for the occasion. Drop-In Honors Summer Visitor Honoring their aunt, Miss Margaret Bell of Staunton, Va., who is spending the summer with her sister, Mrs. Robert E. Wysor, Mrs. John B. Jordan and Mrs. Benjamin Ivey entertain ed a few friends with a drop-in on Friday morning at the Wysor home. Assorted dainties were served buffet with punch from the din ing table which was adorned with a bowj of roses. Mrs. John B. Miss Joan Vaughan Feted at Supper Complimenting Miss Joan Vaughan, August bride-elect, Mrs. J. L. Delany and Miss Kit Delany entertained with an out door supper at their home at Jo anna Thursday evening. For the supper table appoint ed on the back lawn a tray of colorful fruits was arranged as decoration. Summer flowers weer also placed on the lawn tables. A chicken barbecue sup per was served to eighteen guests. Mrs. Frank Sherrill as sisted the hostesses in serving. Miss Vaughan was presented china in her wedding pattern. A. R. P. Circles Joint Meetings A joint meeting of the circles of the Associate Reformed Pres- Monday evening with Mrs. R. L. byterian church was held on Plaxico and Mrs. R. L. Plaxico, Jr., at the home of the former. Continuing the Bible study on Acts Mrs. A. B. Blakely taught the lesson. Mrs. George Watts Copeland led the program on Dunlap orphanage in Tenne&ee, with several members discusing articles from the Synodical Jour nal The group packed a box- of supplies for the orphanage Later a social hour was en joyed during which the host esses served a sweet course with punch. Mrs. W. B. Farr Entertained Here Mrs. W. B. Fait of Greens boro, N. C, is the guest this week of her nephew, J. Hen derson Pitts, and Mrs. Pitts. A number of courtesies have been extended Mrs. Farr, who is a former resident. Saturday af ternoon- Mrs. J. A. Neighbors gave a drop-in in her honor. Yesterday a family picnic was held at Lake Reynosa near Ren- no with Mrs. Farr as a special guest. Today Mrs. R. E. Sadler is entertaining the visitor at luncheon. On Monday Mrs. Farr and Mrs. Pitts were guests of friends in Greenwood for luncheon. Sev eral other entertainments are be ing planned by friends and rela tives for the visitor during her stay here. Methodist Circles August Meetings The afternoon circles of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service of Broad Street Metho dist church will hold a joint meeting on Monday afternoon, August 9, at 4 o’clock at the church. The Sara Glenn circle, Mrt Forrest Adair, chairman, meets at 8 o'clock at the home of Mrs: Lewis Wallace, with Mrs. C. H. McCrary as co-hostess. The Louise Best circle, Mrs. Irene Pitts, chairman, meets Wednesday evening, the 11th, at. Whitten Village at 8 o’clock. Party, Shower Fetes Miss Monnie Miller Complimenting Miss Monnie Miller, August bride-elect, Mrs. R L. Plaxico, Miss Nannie Young Tribble, Mrs. W. B. Trib ble and Mrs. Earl Stewart en tertained with a party and linen shower on Wednesday evening of the past week at the plaxico home. A variety of colorful summer flowers attractively . decorated the living and dining rooms for the occasion. Miss Miller was given an or gandy apron on which each guest signed her name, to be embroid ered later. “Bride’s Bingo” was played with prizes presented the winners. When the bride-elect won she was prsented the show er of gifts. Later a salad course, punch and cake squares were served to the thirty guests invited for the occasion. Entertain Friends With Bridge Suppers On Friday and Saturday eve nings Mr. and Mrs. James S. Von Hollen entertained a number of friends with bridge suppers at Floral arrangements elsewhere in the home featured zinnias, snapdragons and dahlias. Small tables were appointed for the guests and the hostess was assisted by Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Francis Blalock. On the former evening prizes were presented Mrs. John Mim- naugh, Rufus Sadler, Mrs. Rufus Sadler, and Robert F. Black' Top bridge scores for Saturday evening were made by Mrs. Ed ward Ferguson and Dr. D. E. Waller, while baccarat prizes went to Mrs. Ed Sadler and Mrs. Edward Campbell. Miss Joan Vaughan Honored In Newberry Miss Joan Vaughan of Kin ards, a bride-elect of August, was delightfully honored with a luncheon at the Wallace House itt' ‘Newberry oir Thursday, July 22. Hostesses were Mrs. R. T. Al brecht and Mrs. R. A. Harley of Newberry. A lovely color scheme of pink and white was manifest in party details. The table, which was set for twelve, was centered with an arrangement of summer cut flowers. Dainty white place cards, decorated in a pink motif, were used. The honoree’s place was marked with a beautiful white lace-lon nosegay, which was centered with lily-of-the- valiey and showered with strea mers of white satin ribbon. After the four-course meal the hostesses presented Miss Vaughan a gift in her selected silver pattern. Long Branch Club Host District Meet The Blast District of the Laurens County Council of Farm Women met with the Long Branch club on July 28th. Mrs. Joe Poole, director, presided. America was sung by the group and Mrs. Roy Hams gave the devotional. Mrs. James Cunningham, president of the host club extended a welcome. The roll was called by the se cretary Mrs. W. R Brown and the president of each club gave her report for the year. The fol lowing clubs were represented Barksdale, Narnie, Long Branch, Musgrove, Oak Grove, Sandy Springs and Shady Grove.
