Offer Course In Laurens

an extension, school in Laurens.
The school will offer Sjpeedwrit-
ing, typing, bookkeeping, payroll
record keeping as major subjects
and business English and spelling,
filing, clerical pracitce and pro
cedure as minor subjects.
The Perry Schools, ■with head
quarters in Brunswick, Ga., have
a long established record of suc
cessfully training hundreds of sec
retaries, stenographers and book
keepers as well as typists, payroll
record clerks and general office
workers. They operate permanent
schools in Brunswick, Columbus,
Albany, Gainesville, LaGrange,
Ga., and in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and
Martinsville, Va.
Prior to 1944 the Perry Schools
maintained an extension school
program, but did not resume this
phase of their operations until
1951) when Speedwriting Short
hand became available and the
need for pressionaliy trained office
Workers grew acute,
Mrs. A. O. Lester, registrar, for
the Perry Schools, is now making
plaus-for ike-scroo! which is limit
ed to 23 students and can be con
tacted at the Laurens Hotel in
Laurens or the Laurens Chamber

The department said supplies of
some fishery products and lard
will be smaller, but pentiful sup
plies of alternative foods will be
available.
Demand for food is expected to
continue strong the next few

other than butter probably will
continue a little above those of

The department also said:
Pork prices may reach a peak
around midsummer and decline
sooner than usual because of
heavy marketing of hogs from the
spring crop.

WASHJNGTON — The Agricul
ture department said today food
supplies for late spring and early
summer may be even more plenti
ful than the bountiful supplies of
1953.
It said Americans are likely to
eat more chicken, eggs and dairy
products than a year earlier, with
output of these products high and
prices lower.
Supplies of meat will be some
what below the high level of last
spring because of a cutback in the
pig crop last fall, the department i
said in a report on the nati nal}
food situation But marketings of
hogs are expected to be heavier
later in the year, reflecting a
larger pig crop this spring, the
report said.
Planting surveys were said to
indicate that spring vegetable and
melon production this year will be
above last year, but that the
show she is producing at Joanna.

Loyal Order of Mooee held a 1
meeting Monday to make
rangements for the show and to
choose the talent; Grady Spires,
Marion Banks, Cecil Bishop.
“You Can’t Beat Fun” uses the
Hidie-Ho club as its setting. Ten
prominent local men will appear
in special costumes representing
the Broadway Butterflies and
the butter and egg men attend
ing this gay night ’ spot where
"everyone goes and anything can
happen”. A master of ceremon
ies keeps things moving at a
rapid pace as he introduces a
variety of acts. Thirty teen
agers will be selected to appear
as chorus girls and five outstand-1
ing local specialty acts will be!
spotlighted in the show.
"You Can t Beat Fun” has the
unqualified recommendation of
many other towns in the nation
where it has played to packed
houses. Further announcements

1. Consolidate the offices of school district superintendents and
eliminating thousands of dollars now wasted on unnecessary adminis
trative expense.
2. Eject all school trustees in our democratic primaries getting away
from our present form of appointment which is fast setting up a dicta
torship in the Laurens County school system.
3. One hundred per cent opposed to raising taxes at this time in any
shape, form or fashion.
4. Will fight at all times to see that all monies derived from the three
per cent sales tax go only for the purpose of education for your children.
5. In favor of a referendum for local option.
6. Advocate one fishing license to allow fishing in all counties in
South Carolina, doing away with all special permits.
7. Place all small loan agencies under the State Board of Bank con
trol.
8. Will work for and initiate legislation to provide for the financing of
the poultry industry by the financial institutions in S. C. Thereby provid
ing millions of additonal dollars for the Laurens county farmers.
9. Work to secure for Laurens county a just share of the new indus
tries moving to South Carolina.
10. Continue to support the program for good roads in Laurens coun-
