Ronnie Davenport, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Davenport, Jr., underwent surgery on May 10 at Joanna hospital. Brent Holsonback underwent surgery at the local hospital on May 10 and continues a patient there. Miss Elsie Gaffney is a patient at the local hospital following surgery on May 11. Brawley hon ored their small daughter, Bar bara Ann, with a party at their home on Pickens street. The oc casion was the honoree’s 8th birthday and 43 guests gathered to wish her much happiness. Outdoor games were Enjoyed with Misses Brendd O’Dell and Betty Zane Longshore directing the children. The dining room was attrac tively decorated in keeping with the occasion. The party table dies. Favors of blow gum and party candies were given each guest. Mrs. Brawley, assisted by Mrs. Lester Hair, served assorted re freshments. Pictures were made during the afternoon. The seed are large and of better quality than unfertilized sericea. The seed yield can be doubled by ap plying 400 to 600 pounds of 0- 14-14 fertilizer per acre in early spring. If you have waited too late;’ you may apply fertilizer af ter the first cutting of hay. Fer tilizer also improves the quality of sericea for hay and grazing. Cattle graze it well and it seems to be more palatable. When you have good hay, seed, and ample grazing, you have good soil con servation on your land.” Mr. Blakely said: “I began growing sericea about twenty- five years ago. Mr. Robbins and I bought 100 pounds of sericea lespedeza seed in North Caro lina. I planted two acres and Mr. Robbins planted five.- We got pretty good stands. Because of lack of facilities we had to carry odr seed to Marsville, N. C., to get than cleaned and scarified. That’s h6w I got into the cleaning business.” Mr. Blakely has been in the seed cleaning business for about fifteen years and has been, very cooperative in promoting soil and water conservation in the Laurens County Soil Conserva tion District.
