Boy Scouts Attend Camporee N The Joanna Boy Scouts took part in the Laurens District cam poree held at the Dr. Whitten camp on Lake Greenwood. Tak ing part in this camporee were 159 boys, with the following Jo anna scouts: Steve Webb, Larry Chappells, Jerry O'Shields, J. W Lee, Larry Garner, Mickey Spires. Terry ' Rushton, Wayne Morgan, Wayne Crouch, Brant ley Bishop, Gerald Farmer, Ed dy Stroud, Flynn Owens, Ron nie Sineath and Scout Leader Guy Clark. Joining the group on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Garner, Mrs. Guy Clark, Mrs. Jim Byars and daughter, Kim. The recreation committee of the Joanna Foundation has pre- with a truck for their use ex clusively. Daniel Compton of Green wood won first place and will represent the region at the state convention in the Sword Drill. Eight choirs participated in the Hymn Festival These will par ticipate in the State Hymn Festi val in Columbia on April 12. • • • Rev. Ralph McKinney, pastor; of Philippi Baptist church, Johnsston, was elected president; of the Western Region for 1954- 55. * • • Youth Week begins in the church on Sunday, April 11.' Roger Poore will serve as pastor, Ethel Mae Rowe as music direc tor, and Myrtle Murphy as edu cational director. Many activi ties have been planned during the week. Every young person will have an * opportunity to serve in some capacity. Moose Ritual Team Goes To Georgetown The ritual team of the Loyal Order of Moose of Joanna put on the degree to institute a new Moose lodge in Georgetown Sun day to 114 charter members. The team consists of Earl Sm- eath, Hack Prater, Marion Banks, Derrill Bozard, Elmer Bennett, Wade Smith, Grady Spires, and J. B. Killian. Law rence Jenkins accompanied the group. Enjoys Birthday Mrs. J. B. Killian entertain ed her family and a few friends on last Saturday * night with sxipper at her home on Moultrie street. Jones performed the ceremony in the presence t of close relatives. The bride was becomingly dressed in a summer light blue gabardine suit with navy bide accessories. She wore a shoul der corsage of white carnations. M^g. Prater is the daughte of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wise. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Prater and is em ployed at Joanna Mills. After a wedding trip to the mountains of North Carolina, the young couple will make their home with Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Adams. Scouts Enjoy Trip To Groonwood A group of Girl Scouts, con sisting of 10 Brownies, 15 Inter mediates and 3 Seniors, attend ed the Juliette Lowe Fund cele bration in Greenwood last Sat urday. Accompanying the group were Mrs. Lester Longshore, Miss Hilda Oxner and Johnny Moore. Local Boys Enjoy Trip Word has been received by Mr and Mrs. Doc Buchanan that their’son, A2c Johnny Buchan an, has returned from a trip to Frankfort, Germany. Johnny is stationed at Westover Air Force Bas, Mass., and left by plane on March 22 at 1:00 p. m., for Ste- phenville, Newfoundland; Ter- ceira, Azores, Burtonwood, Eng land, and Frankfort, Germany. The crew remained there for 24 hours and returned by the same route.
