For example, a friend or acquaintance - jflj'.poc vni■r or ii reported to have aaid highway, something unkind alxiut you You think about it - - ' repeatedly. It sinks down into your subconscious mind where an emotion of anger and resentment is developed. Other negative emotions are developed in the same way. ’ ' ' How to overcome it? Entertain good and posi tive thoughts about this person. Turn your mind away from the grievance. Consider the fact that what was reported to you may have been exagger ated. Probably it was. If the incident actually occurred, your friend may not have been felling well. He may have been tired. He may have re ceived some b^d news. Think about other kind nesses which he has done for you. Think about the whole matter positively rather than negatively. Then if you believe in player, try praying for this friend against whom vou are beginning to build up a resentment. Jesus Christ said, -Pray for those who despitefully use you and persecute you." Remember, you are going to be the loser in this matter of generating an emotional resentment and you are going to lose more than sour friend, because resenment destroys happiness and if continued long enough it actually affects physical health. Take another step further. Go out of your way to say something kind about or to this friend. Do him some favor or kindness. The i Bible speaks of this too when it suggests that we “heap coals of fire on his head.” Heap the kindness on. Heap the favors on. The fire you build will melt him down and warm you up. Most negative emotions are generated by ignorance of the true facts. It is natural for man to fear the unknown, and so we fear or ; dislike the people that we do not truly know. Before you begin to build up a resentment or a fear against any person or any thing, get the facts about the case: learn to know the Mr. and Mrs person or people concerned. The positive good emotions are strong er than the negative evil emotions. For example, love is stronger than hate and faith is stronger than fear. You don’t have to study a book on psychology to learn good hu man relations. The best practical book is quite probably in your own home—the Bible. Get it out, read it, study it. If you don t un derstand it, get a modem version for a comparative study, or a good •'Be not overcome of evil but overcome evil with good. Here is the answer to my correspondent. dren. SN Whitmire Arrives In States SN Derrill Whitmire, son of Mrs. Clyde Atkins, arrived in San Francisco, Calif., on March 12. Prior to landing he had call ed his mother on March 9 while a thousand miles at sea. SN Whitmire has served 9 months of overseas duty at Pearl Har bor, Hong Kong, Formosa, Oki nawa, and the Philippines. He is expected home in April for a 30-day furlough. Cottage Prayer Meeting Prayer meeting, preceding the Epworth revival, will be held Friday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Pope Motes. Rev. P. W. Turner will lead the group. All who are interested are invit ed to attend. PTA Sponson Stew The Joanna PTA will sponsor a chicken stew at Joanna club house Saturday afternoon at 5 o’clock. Mrs. Mildred Bowers will have charge of the kitchen. The proceeds will be used to fur ther the work of the PTA. Miss Carr Honored Miss Pat Carr was given a two rating in the junior high pi ano solo contest in the Western Carolinas Music Festival held at Converse college in Spartan burg on March 9. Miss Carr represented Joanna schools and will participate in the finals to be held af Winthrop college later in the spirng. She is the talented daughter of Mr- and Mrs. R. G. Carr.
