Laurens, Oct. 23. — Capt. Eugene
Davenport, 64, one of two prison
guards shot last Wednesday by a

Sheriff Lowery said Mr. Elmore
entered the enclosure following a
disturbance Wednesday night in the
camp compound. He said Williams
hit Mr. Elmore over the head with
a bottle, took his gun away and shot
him.
