McLendon, and sister, Mrs. Mary Northcutt, in Columbia. Mr. and Mrs. O’Dell Lambert and children, Mrs. Loree Belton and Mrs. Mable Tucker of Clinton, vis ited Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Banks Sun day. Mrs. Emmie Thomas and family and Mr. and Mrs. Columbus Hughes attended a birthday dinner honor ing Odis Nelson at his home in Greenwood Sunday. Mrs. Lois Sanford and children of Joanna, were Saturday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. O’Shields. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Satterfield and children and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meeks spent Sunday in the moun tains of North Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Snider and Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Snider and children of Belton, visited Mr. and Mrs. Roy Snider Sunday. Friends of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dav enport sympathize with them in the death of Mr. Davenport’s broth er, Christopher Davenport, in Bal timore, Md. Mr. and Mrs. Daven port left Tuesday to attend funeral services to be held there Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Collins and family spent Sunday in Greenville with the latter’s mother, Mrs. J. W. Oakley, the former Miss Sandra Ellis, of Long Beach, Cal., arrived Saturday for an ex tended visit with Mr. and Mrs. Pruitt Oakley. Seaman and Mrs. Oakley were married July 4th in California and this is her first visit here. Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Abercrombie and family visited their daughter, Mrs. Joe Carroll, and Mr. Carroll in Pendleton Sunday. Mrs. Julia Thrift and Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Pace and family visited their mother, Mrs. Mary Robinson in Fort Mill Sunday. Mrs. Rosa Morris is visiting her son, J. A. Jackson, and Mrs. Jack- son in Newberry. Mrs. Julia Anders and daughter of Rutherfordton,- N. C., visited Mr. and Mrs. George Howell Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Harvey and family attended a dinner at the home of the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Eustace, Sunday hon oring Mrs. Harvey’s brother, Lester Eustace, who had returned from two years in Korea. He will leave to go to Hawaii this week. Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Todd and Mr. and Mrs. Homer Fuller and sons were Sunday guests of their son and brother, Spurgeon Todd, and Mrs. Todd. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dalton and family, W. M. Dalton and family of Calhoun Falls, Mrs. Mary Ott and children of West Clinton, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Dalton. Meeks visited Mrs. Grady McElrath in Ninety-Six Sunday. She had just returned home from Duke hospital in Dur ham, N. C- Mrs. Ruth Fowler and daughters of Greenville, visited Mr. and Mrs. Mason Coleman Mohday. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hamrick and sons were Saturday supper guests of the latter’s parents, Rev. and Mrs. J. I. McGill in Winnsboro. Miss Joyce Mitchell and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Meadors and sons have returned home after a week’s visit with relatives in Birmingham, Ala., Columbus, Miss., and Aber deen, Miss. Mrs. Rosa Meeks of Laurens, is visiting her son, J, C. Meeks and Mrs. Meeks. Mrs. J. H. Holmes and Miss Mary Sue Holmes of Cross Anchor, were visitors of the Meeks family on Sunday. Clyde Trammell, with Calvin Cooper and Ray Godfrey of West Clinton are attending the National Safety Council meeting in Chicago, 111., this week. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Shealy and Phyllis of Greenville, and Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Boyce and Barry of Spartanburg, visited Mr. and Mrs. Joe Davenport during the week end.* Mrs. Fred Bodie and Miss Mary Ellen Bodie, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Thomas of Newber ry, spent the week-end with Dr. and Mrs. P. Y. Culbertson in Ma rietta, Ga. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Abercrombie, Dianne and Buddy Abercrombie visited Rev. and Mrs. J. H. Walker at Grove Station Sunday. Engagement Announced Mr. and'Mrs. F. L. Bratcher an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Frances Cleo,. to Sam Olin Owens, son of Mr .and Mrs. James D. Owens of this city. The wedding will take place in Decem ber. Birth Announcement McCurry Mr. and Mrs. Ronald McCurry announce the birth of a son, Barry Wade, on Oct. 15 at the Self Mem orial hospital in Greenwood. Mrs. McCurry is the former Miss Mar garet Burton, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Ernest Burton. Shumate , Mr.'and Mrs. A. M. Shumate, Jr., announce the birth of a daughter, Ellen Denise, on October 18 at the Blalock clinic. Mrs. Shumate is the former Miss Helen Harvey. Congregational Meeting Sunday There will be a congregational meeting immediately following the Sunday morning worship service at the Lydia Presbyterian church. All members are asked to be pres ent Christening Held On last Sunday morning at the Lydia Presbyterian church Rev. George A. Anderson brought the morning message, after which he administered the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper, and christened the following children: Charles Inglett, son of Mrs. Al len Inglett. Jimmy Neal, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Neal. Johnny, Vicki, and Danny Pearson, children of Mr. ahd Mrs. J. C. Pearson. There were two additions to the church. * Visiting Speaker Sunday Rev. Kenneth Word of Laurens, will speak at the morning worship services Sunday at the Lydia Meth odist church and at Sandy Springs Methodist church Sunday evening Rev. C. B. Word, pastor of both churches, is in Charleston for the week attending the annual Metho dist conference being held at Beth el church. The public is invited to attend these services. Pentecostal Heating Changed The Pentecostal Young People's Society, formerly meeting on Sun day is now being held on Saturday evening at 7:30 at the'Lydia Pen tecostal church. All young people of the church are invited.
