Local Scout Troop Wins First Place In County Camporee Boy Scout Troop 111 was award ed the Blue Ribbon for earning the greatest number of points at the Laurens District Camporee last Fri day and Saturday. Points were given for discipline, co-operation, and first place in each contest. The troop had 53 points. C. i 1 .'ft' Fall County Council Meeting Held At Durbin The Fall Council meeting of Lau rens County Farm Women was held Saturday at Durbin church with the Durbin Home Demonstration club as hostess to the group. Eighty council members were present for the meeting. Mrs. Robert C. Wasson, delegate to the Associated Country Women of the World meeting in Toronto, Canada, was guest speaker. Mrs. Wasson was Piedmont district di rector at the time of her trip to Canada. Mrs. Wasson told of her experiences on the trip and of the people in various countries. She gave an informative report on the organization of A. C- W. W. Mrs. Lawrence Cook, County Council president, presided, and Mrs. Herschel Wilson served as secretary. Mrs. H. M. Cook, Durbin club member, gave the devotion, using for her thpme, “Wanted, Spirit- Filled Women to Restore the Lost Art.” Special entertainment, composed of readings and songs, were given by Miss Stella Wallace, accompan ied by Mrs. C. D. Gray and Mrs. E. J. Evatt of Gray Court. Miss Wal lace sang four selections, “I Be lieve,” "Joshua”, “In the Garden of My Heart”, and “One Kiss.” Mrs. Evatt gave two readings, “Mary’s Essay on Husbands”, and “Imper sonations of a Little Boy.” Mrs. B. A. Goodwin, 1st vice- persident of the Council, led the symopsium on the Program Plan of Work for 1954. She gave the Coun ty Council Goals and each county chairman presented department*.! goals which were adopted. County chairmen , are: Mrs. Fred Woods, Beautification; Mrs. Gray Harris, Agricultural; Mrs. Cora Stewart, Citizenship;. Mrs. M. T. Poole, Edu cation; Mrs. B. F. Ridgeway Flealth; Mrs. Buck Mahon, International Relations; Mrs. David Pitts, Legis lative; Miss Belle Patterson, Mem bership; Mrs. Harold Wallace, Mus ic and Recreation; Mrs. H. B. O’ Dell, Publicity; Mrs. Gray Hipp, Religion; Mrs. W. R. Brown, 4-H. Miss Belle Patterson, Lanford, community, gave a report on the State Council meeting held at Win- throp college in June ih which 19 women from Laurens county at tended. Mrs. Guy Mahon, Greenpond club president, gave a report on the Piedmont District meeting held at Clemson on September 12. During the business session Mrs. W. A. Wilson gave the treasurer’s report. Best club reports for the year were announced by the dis trict directors and ribbons awarded to club presidents. Clubs having best reports in the West district were: Hickory Tavern, first; Trin ity Ridge, second; and Shiloh, 3rd. In the East district: Barksdale- Namie, first; Musgrove, second; Long Branch, third. Best reports for the North district were: War rior Creek, first; Greenpond, sec ond; and Lanford, third.
