The wedding plans are to be announced later. Horrill-Chiles Engagement Mr. and Mrs. B. P. Harrill of this city, announce the engagement of their daughter, Billie Ann Harrill, to Foy Chiles, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Foy Chiles of Mauldin. Miss Harrill, a former resident of Greenville, recently moved here with her parents who reside on Holland street. The wedding will take place Oc tober 9. Luncheon Given For Cord Club Thursday Mrs. D. O. Rhame was hostess to members Qf her card club for a bridge luncheon. Two tables were apopinted for the guests and after lunch a num ber of progressions were enjoyed. Club award for high score went to Mrs. J. B. Hart. Bowls of Charlotte Armstrong roses were used in dec oration for the hostess’ home on the occasion. Mrs. Seose Hostess Lutheran Society The October meeting of the Wom an’s Missionary Society of St John’s Lutheran church was held on Monday evening at the home of Mrs. T. M. Sease. TTie discussion on the topic “The Mission In Our Midst” was led by Miss Berlie Epting who was assisted py several other members. A social hour followed the busi ness and the hostess served punch, a salad course and cake. Bible Class Meets With Mrs. Tribble On Monday evening of the past week Mrs. W. B. Tribble and Mrs. W. W. Arrington were co-hostesses at the home of the former to mem bers of the Ladies Bible class of the Associate Reformed Presbyter ian church. Mrs. E. B. Sloan gave the study on “Women of the Bible.” Later during a social hour the group en joyed sandwiches, cookies and punch. Hop McSween Observes Birthday Hap McSween, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry McSween, was eight years old September 29, in observ ance of the occasion he invited fourteen little boys for a party last Wednesday afternoon. After seeing a movie they return ed to his home where ice cream and cake were served. Party ap pointments in the Halloween motif. Bubble gum and Halloween novelty favors were given each child. Seated Tea Honors Visitor Complimenting her cousin, Mrs. H. A. Machen, of Rumford, R. I., who is visiting here, Mrs. Joe W. Leake entertained with a seated tea Saturday afternoon at her home. In the party rooms roses and car nations in attractive arrangements were used in decoration. A number of friends were invited to meet Mrs. Machen and during the informal hour the hostess serv ed party sandwiches with other dainties and tea. Assisting the hostess in the cour tesies of entertaining were Mrs. Morgan Todd and Mrs. Fuller Moates of Mountville. Joint Hostesses Entertain At Bridge Mrs. T. C. Johnson, Jr., and Mrs. Dillard Milam, Jr., entertained at bridge on Friday afternoon at the Legion Home. Dahlias and gladioli in varied hues and several colorful dried arrange ments made a pretty background for the tables. Mrs. Roy Casque made top hon ors and Louise Buford second high, rioatftg'^pnze was kept by Mrs. W. S. Home. Later in the afternoon the host esses served a salad and sweet course with punch. Mrs. Pringle Copeland, Jr., was high score winner for the visitors, and Mrs. George Frady for the dub members. Consolation prize went to Mrs. Reese H. Young. Marshall, Jr. Episcopal Women Have Monthly Meet Women of the auxiliary of All Saints Episcopal Mission met Mon day afternoon at the church with Mrs. Newton B. Jones, president, presiding. “Living the Church Year” was the theme of the program which was given by Mrs. R. B. Hellams. Hollis and Mrs. Hollis. Lt. Col. Hollis with hik fam ily, has returned from a tour of duty in Panama and is enroute to Fort Benning, Ga. Mr. and Mrs. Horace D. Payne entertained at dinner at the Wal lace House in Newberry on Tues day evening for the visitors. Dr. and Mrs. James Walker were host and hostess to the Hollises and their guests for lunch yesterday. Last evening Mr. and Mrs. Hugh S. Jacobs entertained a few friends at supper honoring the visitors. They will be guests today of Col. end Mrs. Robert E. W.ysor and Mrs. Benjamin Ivey for lunch. Mrs. Ivey and her husband Lt. Ivey were stationed at the same post in Pan ama with the Hollises. TTiis evening Mr. and Mrs. Hollis will compliment their house guests with a buffet supper at Lakeside country club assembling about twenty-eight guests. Dr. and Mrs. J. A. McQuown of Greenwood will be out-of-town guests for the party. On Friday evening Miss Dorothy Lucas and Dr. C. C. Lyles iwill join the group here for the Wofford- P. C. game. UDC Program On Eisenhower The October meeting of the Ste phen D. Lee Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, was held on Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Joe W. Leake. Mrs. C. Bynum Betts was in charge of the program on “A Liv ing Hero,” and gave an interesting life sketch of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. During a business session reports of the committee chairmen were given. Mrs. D. A. Yarborough and Mrs. Estelle Abrams were selected as delegates to the general meeting in Washington, D. C., on November 10. Alternates are Mrs. Hamp Stone and Mrs. Betts. During a social hour the hostess es served sandwiches, cookies and punch. The hostess committee for the evening was composed of Miss Agnes Davis, Mrs. E. B. Sloan, Miss Ruth Bailey, Mrs. E. Mace Young and Miss Blanche Cox. ARP Circles Have Mission Programs The October meetings of the cir cles of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian church were held Monday. Dahlias ahd roses were used in decorations. Mrs. Reese Young, Mrs. M. J, McFadden assisted in serving a salad course. Mrs- Horace Payne was winner of high score and a gift was also presented to Mix. Boyd. Mrs. M. J. McFadden enter tained Friday at noon at the Wal lace House in Newberry in honor of Mrs. Wesley Boyd. Vari-colored miniature chrysan themums and place cards were sig nificant of the fall season. Mrs. Boyd was presented tractive gift. On Friday evening Mrs. Pringle Copeland and Mrs. Horace Payne honored Mrs. Boyd with bridge, were used and Mrs. Brooks Owens Attractive arrangements of zinnias assisted the hostesses in serving a salad course followed by a sweet course. High score was won by Mrs. Mor gan Todd and floating prize by Mrs. Wilbur B. Queens. The honoree was presented with a lovely gift.
