Mrs. Bobbie Jean Motes of Kin ards, is l 6 patient at the local hos pital. Willie C. 'Bishop Passes The community extends deepest sympathy to the family of Willie C. Bishop who passed away at Joanna hospital early Friday. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at Hopewell Methodist church by Rev. J. E. Kinard and Rev. S. T. H., of New berry; 65 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Richard W. Cole Passes Friends of Mrs. L. H. Poag and C. B. Cole will regret to learn of the pasing of their brother, Rich ard W. Cole, of Greenwood. Mr. Cole passed away at his home on Saturday. Funeral services were conducted Monday at Blythe Funeral Home by the Rev. John N. Carros. Burial was in Greenwood Memorial Gar dens. Penlecottal Church Newt The regular church schedule will be held Sunday at the Pentecostal Holiness church. The program is as follows: Sunday School—10:00 A. M. Worship Hour—11:00 A. M., with Rev. Ben Jones back in the pulpit. Evening Worship—7:30 P. M. A cordial invtation is extended to the public. Birthday Party Given Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Oakley, Jr., honored their son, Donie, with a party at their home on Marion street last Friday morning at 11:00 o’clock. The occasion was Donnie's 4th birthday and his first party. Thirty children enjoyed the celebra tion with outdoor games. The cen ter of the recreation was a large gym set, a gift of the parents. The color scheme of green and yellow was carried out in the party dec orations. Mrs. Oakley was assisted in serv ing and entertaining by Miss Willie Murrah, Mrs. Johnny Jenkins and Mrs. Si L. Oakley, Sr. Favors of party hats and multi colored balloons were given each guest. Refreshments of cake.^ice cream and drinks were served. Each guest remembered Donie with a gift. Missionary Society Meets The general meeting of the Wom an’s Missionary Society of the Jo anna Baptist church was held in the recreation room on Thursday evening, June 25. Mrs. E. J. Will ingham presided over the business session and reports were given by circle leaders and young people’s counselors. The program was under the direc tion of the Mable Moorhead circle. {The theme of the program was Christian Education. The following student^ spoke on the religious ac tivities of the schools they repre sent: Miss Dorothy Carr, Winthrop; Miss Joann Tompkins, North Green ville Junior college; Miss Jeanette Evans of the Baptist hospital; Miss Helen Phillips, North Grenville Junior college; Tommy Boyce, Clemson; Miss Betty Norwood, YWA counselor, gave a challenge to the students to support their local i church during the summer. Miss Myrtle Murphy, accompanied by Miss Janice Fennell, sang, “Wh^re Cross the Crowded Ways of Life,’’ by Beethoven. The Mitchell circle served lem onade and cookies during the social hour. 4^H Club Group Attending Camp In Aiken County Laurens county 4-H club mem bers will attend county 4-H camp June 29-July 3 at Camp Long, Aik en. Approximately 125 boys and girls are planning to attend/ Five local leaders and county ex tension workers will attend with the group. Local, leaders attending camp are Mrs. Beatrice Sloan, Clin ton; Miss Mary .Frances Wilkie, Youngs; Mrs. Clara Hill, Cross Hill; Ed Langston, Barksdale; and Ed die Jones, Mountville. While at camp club members will have classes on correct table manners, judging canned foods, tractor driving, home lighting, highway safety, water safety and swimming instructions. They will also have part on vesper-programs for the night meetings.
