l . \ Thursday, April 30, 1953 ^ » 1953-54 County Supply Bill THE CLINTON CHRONICLE The Laurens county supply bill for 1953 passed third reading in the lower house last week and was sent to the senate Thursday. It is now in the hands of Sen. R. T. Wil son to be approved or amended be fore the delegation agrees upon its final enactment into law. The amount to be raised by taxa tion, the difference between total appropriations and total estimated revenues is $134,624.24. The bill provides spending totalling $414,- 624.24. Estimated income is fixed at $280,000, the total spending fig ure being about $35,000 less than last year. * Under the bill the auditor is au thorized to collect taxable property tax in the two school districts at the rate of 20 mills, a reduction of 7 mills from the county maximum of 27 mills last year. The reduc tion will be brought about by state funds of nearly $100,000 being re turned to the county through the surplus spending act. A reduction of $60,000 is made in the section for permanent road im provements due to the fact that this will be cared for in the proposed road building bond issue of $200,000 for this year, and the same amount n^h be necessary, $3,465. for the fllowing year. A breakdown of the estimated revenue follows: Fines, licenses and fees, $50,000; gasoline tax, $95,000; alcoholic li quors tax, $43,000; beer and wine, tax, $11,000; bank thx, $5,000; bond premium and interest, $2,500; aoun- tys’ part of income tax, $35,000; de linquent taxes, $27,500; miscellan eous, $11,000. The bill also includes several sec tions pertaining to the operation of the office of the sheriff, supervisor, commissioners and general routine business of the county. A tax of one mill is levied on all taxable property to cover insurance on the county hospital and the balance thereof to be expended for the care County Home — Salaries: superin tendent $1,760, assistant to the su perintendent $350, additional help to care for inmates $1,320. ‘ Food, clothing, fuel, lights, etc., for inmates, and for farming expenses $6,500. Amount in excess of appropriation for 952-53 to complete construction of county home, $5,000. S. C. retirement system for county employees, $5,000. S. C. Industrial commission—pre- miunri for workmen’s compensation insurance, $1,100. County attorney, $300. Rebinding records and repairing plat books in office of clerk of court, $1,000. James Mitchell bringing the mes sages. Rev. Joe Stroud, music-edu cation director of College Avenue Baptist church, Lenoir, N. C, is di recting the music each evening and bringing the morning messages, Tuesday throug^ 'Friday at 10:00 o’clock. Prayer 5 services are being held in the various departments each evening at 7 o’clock with the Concord and church choirs and mu sicians meeting in the choir room for rehearsals and prayer. Services will continue through Sunday each evening at 7:30. The pastor extends a cordial invitation to the people of other churches and the community to attend.
