Mr. and Mrs. Gregg Rowe and son visited relatives in Saluda Sun day. B. L. Meeks visited Tuesday with his mother, Mrs. W. S. Meeks, in Laurens. Capt. and Mrs. Clyde Smith, Jr., and children of Hunter Field, Savannah, Ga., spent a few days the past week with Capt. Smith’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Smith, Sr. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil McLendon and Cecilia visited relatives in Lau rens on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Troy Powell and son of Laurens, visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Jack- son. Mr. and Mrs. Edward^ Williams returned to their home in Newber ry recently after a stay with Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Parrish, Jr., while recuperating from injuries receiv ed in a recent automobile accident. Cpl. Jesse Harvey of Donaldson Air Force Base, Greenville, spent the week-end with his mother, Mrs. Alma Harvey. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Parrish and children of Aiken, were week-end guests of the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Parrish. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Johnson and children of Greenwood, were dinner guests of the Parrish family Sunday. Mrs. M. P. Bradley and Mrs. Es telle Phillips visited friends and relatives in Athens, Ga., Sunday. Friends of Jessie Abercrombie will be interested to know he nas accepted a position at Camp Gor don, Ga. Mr. and Mrs. James Hogan and sons spent the week-end with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. S. McDaniel in Union. Mr. and Mrs. James Estes and Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Smith of Nin ety-Six, were Sunday guests of Mr. I Mf Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Miss Miriam Templeton of Win- throp college, spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Templeton. They attended the Childers-Templeton wedding in York Sunday. Mrs. E. F. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gaffney celebrated their 12th wedding an niversary February 22. Pfc. Howard McCauley of Wal ters Air Force Base, Mineral Wells, Texas, will observe a birthday to morrow. All members are invited to be present for the meetings. Mrs. Leila Smith Passes Mrs. Leila Fleming Smith, 76, died early Monday morning at her home, 307 Mill St, Laurens, after several years’ declining health and a brief critical illness. She was a native of Madison County, N. C., and made her home in Clinton for 25 years before mov ing to Laurens. She was a mem ber of Lydia Mill Presbyterian church. Twice married, her first hus band was William Guest. Surviv ing from this union is one son, Harry L., Fisher Island, N. Y. Her second marriage was to T. Dr. Felder Smith OPTOMETRIST Laurens, S. C. Phone 794 ion are one daughter, Mrs. Beatrice Smith White, Laurens; three half- sisters, Mrs. Jim Lewis, Mrs. Geo. Moore, both of Laurens; Mrs. Car rie Messer, Cross Anchor; and one half-brother, John A. Fleming, Denver, Colo. Funeral services were conducted yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) at Lydia Mill Presbyterian church by the Rev. Grange Cothran, the Rev. Mr. Herder and the Rev. W. A. Tinsley. Burial followed in Edgewood cemetery, Greenwood. Pallbearer^ were S. B. Neal, C. B. Sharpton, Fred Burnette, John M. Hatton, Jr., J. A. Black, Jr., and Roy Sanders.
