Celebrates 13th Birthday Alvin Hueble celebrated his 13th birthday with a party at Joanna club Friday night. An evening of games and contests, led by Mrs. Betty Ruth Long, were enjoyed by the 22 guests present. The prizes were won by Elvin Floyd, Marlene Humphries and Ronnie Hueble. The party table was decorated in white and centered with a large chocolate frosted cake with pink candles. Alvin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Hueble of Sumter street. He received many gifts. Group Awarded Certificates Last Tuesday morning Mrs. Alex Crawford, instructor of the Joanna Study club, accompanied members to the University of South Carolina jto stand the state high school ex laminations. Five people finished j the required work and will be giv en state high school certificates. They are: Mrs. R. L. Francis, Mrs. Harold Murphy, Mrs. Arthur League, Chris Davenport, and Wil liam Dunlap. Another group will make the trip in,the late spring to stand the examinations. The Study club began a new semester of work on Tuesday evening. Anyone in the community or - surrounding communities interested in studying is invited to attend one of the three classes held each week in the edu cational building of Joanna Baptist church. This project is sponsored and paid for by the Joanna Bap tist church without state aid and anyone wishing to attend in gram mar or high school, is invited to attend. Girls' Auxiliary Meets The Intermediate Girls’ Auxil iary of the Joanna Baptist church met at the home of the leader, Miss Ruth Hair Thursday evening. Miss Judy Dunlap presided over the business session. A program on Stewardship was presented by Miss Hair and other members. A sweet course in the Auxiliary colors, green and white, were serv ed by the hostess. The next meet ing on February 19, will be held at the home of Mias Dunlap.
