George Palmer of Greenwood, is spending several weeks with his daughter, Miss Georgie Lewis, and Mr. and Mrs. John Burnette, Sr. With The Sick Judy Templeton has been con fined to her home with chicken pox. R. A. Gardner, little Karen Sur ratt and Charles Barnes were dis missed from Joanna hospital last week. George Johnson of Kinards, is a patient at the local hospital. On January 2nd Mrs. Mildred Baker of Newberry, w-as admitted to the local hospital. Mrs. Shirlene Hannah is a pa tient at*' Joanna hospital following ! surgery on January 3. Little Kathy Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Miller, ofi Kinards. is a patient at the local ; hospital. Little Marie King, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. C. King of Kin ards, was admitted to Joanna hos pital Saturday. Mrs. Johnny Davis is recuperat-J ing from a recent operation at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Oxner, on Hampton street. Friends of Luther Brock, Jr., will will be interested to know he left Joanna Wednesday to report to Co lumbia hospital. 4 ‘ Mrs. Virgie Garner was confined to her home on the Columbia high way with illness last week. Miss Sara Sellers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. V. Sellers, Ts a‘pa tient at Joanna hospital. Mrs. Rudy Prater was confined to her home last week with flu. Mr. and Mrs. Louie Prater are ill at their home in Joanna Heights with flu. ^ • Bus Schedule To Churches The churches of Joanna invite each one to give God a chance with their lives in the coming year by attending the church of their choice each Sunday. The Joanna Foundation bus will follow the following route Sunday morning, January 11, to furnish transportation to the churches of the Joanna community: Midway—9:10-9:15. v Honds Cross Roads—9:25-9:30. Kinards—9:35-9:40. We hope to see a large number in attendance this Sunday. Joanna Club Meats Last Thursday evening members of the Joanna Woman’s club met for their first time of the new year. Mrs. S. P. Bowers president, pre sided over the brief business ses sion. The pogram was presented by Miss Mildred Bozard on the theme, “Health.” Mrs. Arthur League and her group served cake with whipped cream, topped with a cherry, and coffee during the so cial hour. The winner of the Christmas decorations were announced as fol lows: First Prize — Mrs. Sloan Row land. Second Prize, most original— Mrs. Julian Hunnicutt. .Third Prize, pretty, but simple— Mrs. Carl Franzen. The judges were three ladies of Laurens. We want to thank Dr. McFadden, the nurses at Joanna hospital and our friends for everything that was done for our daughter, Willie Mae, during her repent illness. New Year Banquet Last Monday night thirty-one Intermediate and Senior MYF members of Epworth church at tended the New Year banquet and watch night service of Maltese Cross sub-district. The three-couse turkey dinner was prepared and served by the WSCS of Waterloo at the First Methodist ahurch in Laurens. Jimmy Stewart of Wof ford college and Joanna, was mas ter of ceremonies. For the recrea tion each church repesented gave a humorous stunt. Mrs. Lavinia; Cooley gave a reading, “Mail Car Passengers.” Following the singing of “Near the Cross,” the group went silently into the sanctuary where organ music was softly played. Rev. I. R. of Gray Coutr, gave the message for the New Year. At the stoke of midnight the al tar was crowded with young peo ple partaking of the Lord’s Sup per which was administered by Dr. W. B. Garrett. Dr. Garrett was as sisted by the pastors of the sub district churches. Memorial church. At 11:30 the grpup assembled in the church au ditorium for the worship led by Miss Myrtle Murphy and young people of Joanna. Miss Uoris Phil lips gave Jhe thoughts from the book of 1952. Miss Ethel Mae Rowe sang “Another Year Is Dawning,” by Wesley. Miss Dorothy Carr gave a reading on the “New Year.” Misses Ethel Mae Rowe, Judy Dun lap, Miriam Long, Pat Carr and Dollie Adair sang “FaierSt Lord Jesus,’ by Willis. Miss Carolyn Thomas gave a story entitled “The Doctor’s Teddy Bear." Miss Hel en Phillips led the directed prayer period and served as accompanist for the service. Miss Mklba Gard ner closed the service with a. poem for the “New Day.” New Year's Service Last Wednesday night interme diates and young people, accom panied by Rev. and Mrs. James Mitchell, attended the New Year's party and worship service held at Hunt Memorial church in New berry for all youth of the associa tion. Entertainment was under the direction of Rev. J. E. Walker of Glenn Street church.
