One could not seriously question this, espec ially in the light of what has re cently happened in religious cir cles. What has happened? Simply this: 1 modernistic scholars, under the direction of a modernistic or ganization (the National Council of Chruches) have produced a mod ernistic Bible which has been ad vertised through modernistic chan nels, and a large number of peo ple have fallen “head over heels” in love with it. When it is stated that the NCC is a modernistic organization the writer dpes not mean that there are no good churches within the sphere of its jurisdiction. Dr. Carl McIntyre, tditor of the Christian Beacon, says, "here is not a man on the list of scholars who would be con-| sidered a fundamentalist or ev angelical in the historic sense of the word.” Yet, these are the men. who translated your wonderful new Bible! Several of the men are of Union Theological Seminary, New York City, hotbed of mod ernism and socialism — some of Yale Divinity School, a center of socialism and modernism. What did these scholars do to Isaiah 7:14?? They substituted the words "ypung woman ' for "vir- j~gihT The King James version reads: "Behold, a* virgin shall con ceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."’ The . new National Council Bible reads: "Be- huld. a voune woman shall con signed, and those indebted to said estate will please make payment likewise. COOPER AUTO SALES East Carolina Ave. — Phone No. 5 "ceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” In j brew the word used is • which means “virgin,” and it is i translated this way in other Old Testament passages in the King James versions. To the writer, this deliberate strike at the deity of Christ is absolutely inexcusable, i even though the word “virgin” ap- ; pears in a small footnote. The King James version uni-; versally uses “thee” and "thou” j whether these pronuouns apply to God or to man. If the translators of the new version were going to follow through uniformly they should use "you” and "yours” universally. But for some reason —purely an arbitrary decision— they decided to retain "thee” and "thou” in the passages where deity is referred to, and “you” and “y ours” elsewhere. Apparently “thee” and “thou” in their opinion had a little more of a re spectful connotatiin. This decis ion has led to a multitude of con flicts and contradictions. For ex ample, in Matthew 16:16, the great confession of Peter in Caesarea Philippi, one would expect to find the reply to the question of Jesus, “But who do you say that I am?" i translated “Thou art the Christ,” ( But, instead, the answer is “yoUj are the Christ.” So He is just a man. Carefully compare Psalm! 2:7 in the .King James and in the new Bible; do the same with He brews 1:5. There are many, many other passages that could be listed in this connection. - + In the King James version the translators were honest enough to put their own inserted words in italics. In the New Bible there is no possible way to tell w’hether the words one is reading were in the original manuscripts or whether they have been arbitrarily insert- <1 ed by these modernistic transla tors. This is unquestionably a most serious defect in the produc tion. Friends, this new Bible is defi nitely not up to the King James version in many respects. It is, in short, inferior. Bible-believing Christians all over America are ris ing up in protest against it. The writer has just read of a mass meeting in the Sportatorium, Dal las, Texas,- which has a seating ca pacity of 10,000, protesting the modernistic character of the new- Bible. Time and space prevent his going into other interesting details concerning this opposition that is gaining momentum daily. Chris tians are coming to see that they had best leave this new Bible at the bookstore. The writer hopes that tlje day may come when born-again, Spirit- filled scholars ^hall gather togeth er and make needed improvements on the King James version, but he shall never trust this to be under taken by men who have thrown the cardinal doctrines of God’s Word overboard.
