JUDSON WHITMIRE Schoolmasters Met ; The schoolmasters group of Lau rens county met Monday night in the cafeteria of Clinton high school. In the absence of the pres ident, W. L. Epting, the vice-presi dent, G. N. Foy, presided in the chair. Representing Joanna schools were Supt. G. N. Foy and Princi pal Buren Lawn. Ladies Night Banquet On Saturday night Magnolia Lodge No. 355 and invited guests enjoyed a banquet at Joanna club. ’Hie tables were centered with evening prayer was given by Mrs. | Robert Parker. One new member was added to the group, Mrs. Stel la Tucker. The next meeting will be on Nov. 28 at the home of Mrs. Robert Parker on Magnolia street. During the social hour the host esses served cake, fronsted cook ies and punch. The group chose “Ever-Ready” as a name. Maltese Cross Sub-District Held At Joanna Ninety members of the Maltese Cross Sub-District gathered at Ep- worth church on Monday evening fo*r their monthly meeting. The Lydia MYF led the devotional, which was centered around the Thanksgiving theme. The wor ship center added much to the program. Centering the table was a white cross and open Bible, flanked on either side by burning candles. Added to this scene were touches of autumn leaves. Miss Margaret Mitchell and Bill Huey rendered a duet. The scritpure was follow ed by several Thanksgiving dis cussions. The business hour was presided over by Furman Golding, Jr., low arrangements of yellow and president. Rev. J. A. Grigsby of bronze chrysanthemums in brass Laurens, was elected as counsellor containers. Horace Hamm * was master of cremonies of the evening and the invocation was given by Chaplain James Fulmer. Lewis R. Thomp son, worshipful master, gave the welcome. The guest speaker was Hugh N. Lane of Roebuck, and was introduced to the group by Mr. Hamm. The programs were pale blue ancl printed on the front were the Masonic emblem. Approximately 80 persons were served dinier consisting of three courses prepared and served by members of the Woman’s club.
