The quality and quantity of exhibits were the best in the his tory of the fair. Plans should be gotten underway now to have greater exhibits for 1953 by all those who plan to have displays. The agricultural exhibits were judged by L. B. Massey, district agent,* Spartanburg, and P. B. Ezell, county agent, Newberry. The community booths were outstand ing and the judging was done by Miss Gertrude Lanham, district home agent, of Rock Hill; Miss Edith C. West, home demonstration agent of Anderson, and Mrs. Sybil Williamc;, of Anderson, a former home economics teacher, together with Mr. MasSey and Mrs. Ezell. The poultry judges were P. H. Gooding, Extension. Poultry Spec- ialit of Clemson and C. E. . ish- op of Donalds. The dairy judging was done by Dr. D. W. Colvard, head. School of Animal Husbandry, North Carolina State college, and Livesay, head^ Animal Husbandry, udging beef cattle was Dr. E. A. University of West Virginia. The rabbit judge was G'. R. Candell, of Charlotte. N. C. The fair of ficials are to be congratulated on the efficient judges. Poultry Winners The following poultry exhibitors won champion awards in the va rious breeds: H^ett Chapman, 4-H club member. Laurens, Rt. 1, had champion Standard Young trio with trio of New Hampshire Reds; G. M. Tesnair bf Whitmire, had Champion Standard Cock with White Face Black Spanish cock, Champion Standard White aced Black Spanish hen. Champion Ban tam Modern BUNheu pullet, and Champion Bantam old trio with Golden Seabright bantam. Also James H. Thomason, of Mountville, had Champion Stand ard pullet with a Dark Cornish pul let. Acording to Forest Service and census figures, Laurens county has 265,000 acres in forestry o 58.2 per cent of the total acres of the coun ty. Sell Poultry Laurens county 4-H boys and girls who had poultry projects this year sponsored by Sears, Roebuck and Company, held their annual poultry sale at the Laurens couhty fair grounds last Saturday morn ing at 10 oclock. There were sev en boys and girls selling $304.15 worth of poultry. The price paid per bird averaged $2.27. The pro ceeds derived from the sale will be used to finance the poultry project next year. Each club member re-1 ceives 100 purebred baby chicks! and each one sells ten selected pul-! lets to help defray the expenses for 1 future poultry projects. Oct. 4. — James Wesley Rearden, now 91, continues to carry out his daily duties with the Graniteville Manufacturing company here. Mr. Rearden hqlds the record for continuous service with one tex tile plant in South Carolina and possibly in the nation. He has worked continuously for the local plant 80 years.
