Miss Gurry Barber spent last week with her mother, Mrs. Louise Barker, in Calhoun Falls. In September he will enter the Southeastern Theological Baptist Seminary at Wake Forest, N. C., to complete his ministerial study. Gene Dillard Phillips, son of the late Paul Madereson Phillips and Mrs. Phillips of Wood ruff, were married Friday evening at the Immanuel church in Greens boro, with the Rev. Troy G. Rob bins officiating at the double ring ceremony. Mrs. Phillips is a graduate at Mars Hill Junior College in North Carolina and is now a senior at Women’s College, University of North Carolina at Greensboro wher§ she will graduate in Jan uary. Rev. Mrs. Robert Cannon is ill at her home on Jackson street ♦ Revival Meeting Continues The revival being conducted at the Church of God on Elizabeth street by Rev. Villard McCrary continues through Sunday night, August 10. Special music and sing ing by Rev. McCrary. A special feature of the meeting is Rev. Mc Crary playing the hand saw. The meetings start at 7:30 each evening. The public is invited. Plastic Party The public is invited to attend a plastic party, tonight at 7.30 at the Community building sponsored by the Junior Missionary Society ot Bailey Memorial Southern Meth odist church. A percentage of the proceeds will be used to help furnish a room at the County Home, a project recently undertak en by the organization. / Youth Night Saturday Young people, 13 and over, plan to attend the Youth Night Tacky Party, Saturday, August 9, at 7:30 at the Community building. Prizes will be awarded for the boy and girl in the oddest attire. -» ^ » Church News Sunday, August 3, members and friends of Barley Memorial South ern Methodist church were priv ileged to hear Rev. T. V. Huggins, president of the Southern Meth odist church, bring two messages. The message of the morning was based on Matt. 5;6, "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.” In the evening he spoke on ‘‘Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.’’ Missionary Mealing Monday evening at 7:30, Miss Sybil McCoy was hostess tb the Woman’s Missionary Society of Bailey Memorial Southern Meth odist church at the Community building. The meeting was opened with the singing of the theme song, ‘‘Jesus Calls Us,” followed by the devotions led by Mrs. Marvin Stewart. After a business session, at which it was decided that the Missionary Society undertake the project of fixing-up the parsonage, two more chapters were studied from ‘‘A New Day in Japan." The report on the customs of the Japanese, given by Mrs. W. R. Terry, showed the peo ple to be very different from Amer icans. Mrs. David Word, then spoke on “Philosophies Bowing to, Revelation,” a chapter telling of the religions in Japan.
