Girls Day Camp ClosM ’
Lydia’s first day camp for girls,
sponsored by the Camp Fire Girls
organization, was very successful.
Fifty-seven were enrolled with the
following staff members: Mrs. lone
Wallace, George Fleming, Miss
Mary Johnson, Mrs. J. B. Temple
ton, Mrs. Roy Thomas, Mrs. Fran
ces Warner, Mrs. Pat Sholar, Mar
garet Mitchell, Miriam Templeton,
Patsy Windsor and Pat Davenport.
A regular camp schedule was
carried out. The day began with
a devotion and flag raising cere
mony. Classes in music, arts and
crafts, swimming and recreation
were enjoyed. The outdoor pro
gram was carried out when the
group went on a spend-the-day trip
to Table Rock state park.
The highlight of the week’s ac
tivities was the Camp Fire cere
monial held Friday night on the
athletic field. The Camp Fire girls
inner circle wore their Indian
maiden ceremonial robes. A^ hon
ored guests the outer circle was
made up of Blue Birds. The Wo-
helo call introduced the ceremony
and after the Indian hand sign the
group sang several Camp Fire
songs. The three candles signi
fying work, health and love, were
lighted by Mickey O’Shields, pres
ident of the Wahankas, Carolyn
Bennett, president of the Aowaki-
yas, and Mrs. Lois Webb, repre
senting the loaders of Camp Fire.
Miss Mary Johnson, president of
the Lydia Woman's club, was rec
ognized, and George Cpmelson
talked of the importance of a Camp
Fire organization to a community.
The ceremony closed with the
Camp Fire good night.
