SMITH, Correspondent and Representative Mr and Mrs. Ralph Harbin and children are visiting in Greenville during the week. ■* Mr. and Mrs. Furman Bratcher, Cleo and Sam Owens of Clinton, Dude Waldrop of Ninety-Six, left Friday night to spend a vacation at Myrtle Beach. Mr. and Mrs D. D. McManus of Whitmire, visited ^relatives here and at Joanna the past week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Piecrcy and son of Spartanburg, Mrs. Lau ra McElhannon and boys spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. C. M. McElhannon. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Black, Jr., and children, Tommy and Martha, of Greenwood, were Sunday visi tors of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Black, Sr., near Clinton. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Boozer 1 left Monday for Gatlinburg, Term., where they will visit during the week. Mrs. M. C. Campbell of Knox ville,- Tenn., Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Pruitt of Spartanburg, spent sev eral days recently with Mr. and Mrs. M. P. Bradley. Mr. and Mrs/’J. C. Freeman and children, of War, W. Va., aie vis iting 'Mr. and Mrs. HMarT ~3atef- field. On Sunday, they, with Mrs. Joe Proffitt, visited "in Columbus, Ga., where they were joined by Cpl Proffitt and continued on to Phoenix City, Ala. Franceen Smith visited the Paul Wilsons in Laurens Monday. Mrs. Rosa Cole of Utica, N. Y., arrived Tuesday for a visit to rela tives and friends here and at Cross Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Claud Willard and children visited Mr. and Mrs. Frank Billings at Waterloo Mon day. Mrs. Ed Fuller is a patient at the Laurens hsopital where she un derwent an operation Thursday. ‘ Birthday Dinner Given The family, relatives and friends of G. W. Culbertson gathered at the Bee club Jn ,Ninety-Six recent- ly in celebration of his 70th birth day. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Furman Bratcher and daugh ter, Cleo, and Sam Owens of Clin ton; Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Culbert son of Clinton; Mr. and Mrs. Grov er Culbertson and Randy, Mr. and Mrs. Dink Griffin and Harold, Mr. and Mrs. Linkv Fuller and Benny of Ninety-Six; Mr. and Mrs. T. O. Bratcher and son, Mr. and Mrs. Everette Butler, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Spearman, Miriam and Bobby, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Hollingsworth, El len and Doris, and Carl Mobley of Greenwood. Those present remembered Mr. Culbertson with gifts and a birth day dinner was enjoyed by the group. Mr. Willard Honored Claud Willard was pleasantly surprised on Sunday when his family honored him with a birth day dinner at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Patterson, near Clinton. Each one remembered him with a gift. A birthday cake with can dles was cut and served after a bountiful dinner. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Patterson and Dianne, Mrs. Frankie Blackwell, Mr. and Mrs. Brooks Patterson, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Land and family, C. L. Entertains At Dinner Miss Martha Holt entertained at dinner on Sunday in—honor of — Donald Lawton, who left Monday for Columbia, where he will be inducted into the army air force Miss Peggy Melnvaille of near Clinton was a guest for the occas-| ion. * Garrett-MdElhannon Wedding Miss Margie Garrett, daughter of S-Sgt. and Mrs. Ernest Garrett of the Sandy Springs community, and W. J. McElhannon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Claud M. McElhannon, of Lydia, were united in marriage on Friday evening at 8 o’clock at the home of the groom’s parents. Mixed flowers were arranged all through the receiving rooms. The couple entered the living room together where the ceremony was performed by their pastor, the Rev. Newell C. Bush. The bride-elect wore for he.' wedding a street length dress of white nylon and white slippers. She carried an Irish linen hand kerchief. Her corsage was red car nations. The groom’s mother was dressed in lavender nylon with white ac cessories. Mrs. McElhannon received her education in the Laurens schools where she graduated last year. Since that time she has been em ployed by Dendy’s store in Lau rens. Mr. McElhannon received his education in the Clinton schools, and is also employed at Dendy’s. After a brief honeymoon they are now at home near Laurens. Those attending from out of town were were Mrs. Luther Mims, Mrs. Courtney, Misses Eliza beth and Ernestine Garrett, sisters of the bride, Jimmy Templeton and Charles Sherfield, all of near Lau rens. WATTS Scouts At Camp A group of Clinton Mills Boy Scouts, with George Fleming as counsellor, spent last week at Camp Old Indian. Several hon ors were won by the group, made up of the following: Phil McGee. Maxie Hedspeth, Murph Boyette. Thomas Fullis, R. C. Wilkie and Ronnie Hedspeth. Big Fourth Celebration A program beginning at 9 o'clock Friday morning on the grounds of Providence school will start the field day activities in celebration of the Fourth of July. Games] and contests will be offered fori all ag«s beginning with the two- year olds. All are requested to register at the booth on the field for the grand prize to be given the lucky number. At one o’clock a picinic lunch will be served. Family Night Planned Thursday night at 7:30 in the auditorium of Providence School will be family night with all in-j vited. Moving pictures of the May' Festival will be shown. Several quartets are invited and the pro gram will end with a community .sing.
