Honored With Shower Mrs. Jimmy Braswell was hon ored recently with a miscellaneous shower at ,th«l Community building. After a number *of games, re freshments, consisting of chicken salad, cheese biscuits, potato chips, cookies and punch were served by the hostesses, Mrs. Mary Terry, Mrs. Eunice Braswell. Mrs. Braswell received many gifts. , Birthdays and Wedding Anniversaries Elbert Rice celebrated his fifth birthday May 15. Carol Martin had a birthday May 16. Woman's Club Meets The Woman’s club met Monday, evening at the Community build ing. Mrs. J. V. Lowe, president,} called the meeting to order. The devotional, given by Mrs. Clinton j West, was “Friends Mean Much In | Life,” 2nd Corinthians, 13. This >was followed by prayer by Mrs, Joe Land. Mrs. Lowe invited everyone to look over the Community building before leaving. All the walls and woodwork had been freshly paint ed and new white organdy curtains put up. Plans were made for the summer months. Following the business session, the special feature of the evening, two films on flower arrangement, 1 were shown. After enjoying these, pictures, all enjoyed refreshments 1 served by the hostesses, Mrs. Mol- lie Dunaway, Mrs. Arthur Howard, j Mrs. Tom Norris and Mrs. Clinton West. Through the courtesy of the Coca-Cola Bottling company each one enjoyed drinks. Brides-Elec! Entertained On Wednesday evening members of Calvary Baptist church choir entertained in honor of Misses Bar bara Roildnp and Shirley Camp bell, June brides-elect, at the com munity house immediately fol lowing prayer service. Mrs. Eva Land directed a number of games during the evening, after which refreshments were served by the social committee. The honored guests were present ed gifts from the choir. Misses Betty Ann Camp bell and Vivian Clark were mem bers of the graduating class. N. C. Guest Rites Held Noah C. Guest, 71, died Monday morning, May 12, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clark Meadors. Funeral services were held Wed nesday at Antioch Baptist church at Elberton, Ga., by the Rev. J. C. West and the Rev. George Thur mond. Burial was in the church yard. Mr. Guest is survived by four children, Mrs. Meadors and Mrs. J. D. Butler of this city; Ralph Guest of Washington, D. C.; five brothers and two sisters, W. S. Guest, Dew ey Rose, Ga., Joe J. Guest, and Mrs. L. C. Elledge of Cross Hill; E. N. Guest, and L. B. Guest, El- erton, Ga.; M. C. Guest, of this city; Mrs. J. E. Hollingsworth of Green wood and four grandchildren. Baptists Ask Huge Revival / Miami, Fla., May 13. — Warned that “nothing short of a “sweeping revival of New Testament religion” will save the world from Commun ism, some 16.000 Baptists will launch the annual Southern Bap tist convention tomorrow. The convention president. Dr. J ; . D. Grey of New Orleans, will make a keynote address. Dr. Ramsey Pol lard of Knoxville, Tenn., will de liver the convention sermon, then the executive committee will report on the progress of the affiliated churches in 22 states with more than 1,000,000 members. Theme of the meeting is “magni fying the chuflch.” The preliminary pastor’s confer ence ended today with a call for a militant church to meet the world wide menace of Communism. Dr. R. Paul Caudill of Memphis, Tenn., declared that “few of us realize the scope of the gains of Communism.” “There are no less than 300.000,* 000 people in some measure caught up in the vortex of this woeful fdeologv,” v Dr. Caudill said. We have p^nhjtted our Christie- ideal ism to ^become vapid and hollow, and h^p failed to apply it to the everyday problems of life." He add ed that “nothing short of a sweep ing revival of New Testament re ligion can save our nation and the nations of the free world from the fearful onrush of the juggernaut of communism."
