Mr. Norton, a native of Indiana, is a recognized authority on cattle as evidenced by the fact that he is invited back to his home state to be sole judge in a state wide show and sale. Last fall Mr. Norton was judge at the Illinois State Polled Short horn show and ’ sale. He has at tended and shown Creekland cattle at several shows since coming to Clinton. Recently he carried two calves to a Florida show and sold second highest calf. Mrs. Norton and children w r ill ac- eompanv him to Indiana—next Friends of Mrs. Henderson Pitts will be glad to know she is con valescing at Hays hospital follow ing an operation illness. Friends of Joseph H. Steiner will be glad to know his condition is improving at the Blalock clinic w r here he has been a patient fol lowing an automobile accident. SUBSCRIBE TO THE CHRONICLE ’’The Paper Everybody Reads" Winners Announced For Training Union Meeting At Laurens The Northwestern Regional Training Union convention was held at the Laurens First Baptist church on Thursday, April 3, from 3:30 to 8:30 p. m., and presided over by the president, Carl Greer of Honea Path. Elvin Floyd of Jo anna. representing the Reedy River association, won second place in the Junior Sword Drill. Miss Myr tle Murphy of Joanna, represent ing the Reedy River association, won first place in the Intermediate Sword Drill. She will compete for first place in the State Interme diate sw’ord Drill when the State Training Union convention meets in Greenville at the First Baptist church April 21-22. Miss Murphy tied for first place at the state con vention last year. The speakers tournament was won by Mrs. Madeline Gillespie of the First Baptist church, Abbeville. The Northwestern Region is com posed of four associations, Abbe ville, Laurens, Reedy River and Saluda. County Tax Books To Close April 15 County tax books for 1951 will close April 15th it is announced by ! Treasurer Sam M. Leaman. After that date unpaid taxes will go to the delinqent tax collector with added costs.
