And all 'voters should understand that these certificates are good for ev ery election—primary and general, and all referendums. The same re quirement applies to municipal elections. This me^ns that only one certificate is needed to Vote in all state elections. Turning to the presidential elec tion in November voters should understand the mechanics of the state election law. Any elector to vote in a primary election must subscribe to the following oath. “I do solemnly swear or affirm that I am duly qualified to vote at this primary election in this club, | and that I will support the nominee of this primary election in the gen- i ral election next ensuing, and that 1 I have not vqted before at this primary election held this day.” This question we are frequently asked, “Does the oath require a voter to support the nominee for President and Vice - President? The answer is NO. The oath re quires support of the “nominee of this primary election” only. Since Presidential electors are not named in primaries, but by the State Ex ecutive Committee, there is no ob ligation for a person who votes Democratic on the national level of the Presidency. This means ev ery voter may cast his ballot under the law independently as he or she chooses, and that through a se- York at 1:12 p.m. (CST) aboard a| curacy, and gave the stark warn- chartered DC-4. After a rough flight that made a number of the general’s party airsick, MacArthur was paraded through the city and taken directly to the Capitol for his address. A scheduled luncheon at the govern or’s mansion was postponed until after the speech. The crowd of thousands spread thickly ov^r the Capitol grounds applauded 21 times as the general charged the administration with liberty will inevitaibly perish from our land.” The speech struck a responsive choro-from this ariti-Truman States Rights stronghold. The general also touched on the off-shore tideland oil issue and on the states rights theme, saying: cern to the' South,” he said, “has “Of possibly most immediate con- been the manner in which this fed eral autocracy has sought by the unconstitutional assumption of au thority and power to inordinate taxation to seize or suppress the implementing “the blueprints of i soverign powers expressly reserved Marx and Lenin with unerring ac-J to the states. “Efforts to sequester their tide- land resources or to regulate their purely social problems are among the many recent incidents.” Dark clouds hung over the Capi tol as the general spoke. Behind him on a temporary platform sat the Mississippi senators and repre sentatives who invited him to speak. “Just as it plunged us unprepared into the Korean War, it now is pre paring us for a war in Europe, as it tears down our structure of con stitutional liberty, it rears the threat of converting us into a mil itary state,” MacArthur said. v SUBSCRIBE TO THE CHRONICLE “The Paper Everybody Reads'* rior, Winston Churchill, in a very ^ recent report to ' his Parliament, creased Trr~ alarming^ proportrons. —-^aL as of now Russia _ is winning World War III nn Rusian style.” We may live to learn that Mac Arthur was prophetically right (Red) political status quo of North Korea remains intact. This po- liical fight before the American people is the most important in the nation’s history. If victory comes it will only be obtained with all- out fight against the President and not by a protest spinster party af filiation. Our senators and con- ern commander loosed his most critical blast thus far at the Truman administration as he addressed a joint session of the Mississippi Leg islature from the steps of the State Capitol building. He called on the people to “re chart the nation’s course” under constitutional processes, apparent ly referring to the next presidential election. MacArthur, who is regarded as supporting the presidential bid of Sen. Robert A. Taft (R-Ohio) did not refer to President Truman by name, but pictured his administra tion arid policies as a path to the ruin of the country. It is apparent that we are fight ing a war which our political lead ers have no intention of winning. Their avowed purpose at present is To “contain” the very thing that is designed to destroy the liberation of all mankind. We are winning nohing and losing everything in this mad coifusion. No effort is being made toward a real victory, either in battle or on the economic from, foreign policy largely be ing the contribution of vast sums toward the rehabilitation of eco nomics abroad. Unless this situa tion >is changed, America in its bas ic concept will not survive. After more than six months of bickering toward an armistice that will be on armistice, and a truce that will be no truce, and after nearly two years of costly war, our armies are stalemated right where they started—streched along he 3th parallel across the little pe ninsula of Korea. This is not an orthodox war; it is a political enterprise for the Kremlin, for, the United Nations, and for all the failing political- economics of the world. It is a crutch for governments that have pledged themselves to full employ ment and general personal welfare and now find they are caught in an economic booby trap of their own making. And yet we hear some politicans droll: “We have succeed ed in our effort.” What has happened, in reality? To date American casualties in kill ed, wounded, and missing exceed 105,000. More than $10 billions of American wealth has been poured into this phony “police action.” In supplies and equipment we have shipped 12 million tons of manufac tured products to Korea, and near ly seven million long tons of gaso line and oiL And with all this, the course they will follow if President Truman decides to offer again and secures the nomination. One Certificate for Voters ! >There i will be no political con tests this summer for state offices in South Carolina. Neither Sena tor Maybank or Johnston must face the voters since they are hold-ov ers. In the congressional offices all incumbents are expected to seek re-election. This will focus all-out attention in county contests. In our county most of the officers in the court house must run this summer as well as the senator and members of the lower house of reprWUntatives. These elections are allifextremely important and it is the responsibil ity of voters to elect the best men available, men of integrity, honesty and due consideration for the pub lic in the discharge of their duty. Good men should be encourgapd to offer their services to the public, for with a wide selection of candi dates to choose from good govern ment is insured. Voters should understand that they cannot participate in the sum mer elections unless they possess registration certificates good for 10 years. •Those who do not hold these requirements must contact the county registration board and r You anked for it— * here it is — ihe Mmoho* leas.. • rasg-to-use. • • emMg-to-clemm MEIE AUIIIUI BroUerette Like all good eookt you know broiling brings out the flavor* of ••^ks, chops, fish.
