The plant location is 14 miles west of Aiken ‘and fronts the Sa vannah river for 700 feet on an area of 122 acres. The plant proper will be 500 feet from the river bank. With an initial instal lation of two 75,000 Kw units, the structure is designed for the addi tion of two more such units which will bring the ultimate capacity up to 300,000 Kw. I quote the story that was pre pared by a staff writer of “The State” and published in “The State” of February 29th.: “Governor James F. Byrnes dug a gold spade into the soil here to day on the edge . of the H-Bomb area and broke ground for what is to be the biggest electric power plant in South Carolina. Dedica tion of the completed steam plant is scheduled tentatively for one ^ear hence. It is to be a unit in the South Carolina Electric and Gas company system, which has head- [ quarters in Columbia, and will sup ply power for 23 counties of the 1 state, including the government’s I huge Savannah River project now | under construction.
