Mrs. J. M. Ross joined Rep. and. Mrs. C. V. Verner of Greenville and spent several days this week in Columbia. C., Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Craven and children of Liberty, and Mr. and Mrs. Clay ton Lunsford of Clinton. Mr. Johnson was a native, of this county and had made his home here for the past 21 years. At the’ time of his passing he was connect ed with Cooper Motor company. He was a son of ‘the late Acie D. and Gertrude Davenport Johnson. He was • a member of Sharon Methodist church of Kinards, and a veteran of World War I. Surviving are his - wife, Mrs. Sula Sanfprd Johnson, two sons, Andrew J. Johnson, Jr., of Hono lulu, and Acie Lee Johnson of this city; one daughter, Mrs. C. J. Wil lard of Chicago, 111.; two grand children, three sisters, Miss Alice Johnson and Mrs. Claude Merchant of this city, Mrs. Johnnie Bobb of Prosperity, and four brothers, Pope Johnson of this city, Jacob of Stey- on, Wigter and Van Johnson of Kinards. SAY: “I SAW IT IN THE CHRONICLE” THANK YOU Lutheran Synod Holds Annual 3-Day Meet In Columbia The 127th annual convention of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of South Carolina will adjourn thh afternoon after a three-day session which started in Columbia Tues day. Reports of the various boards and committees of the synod have shown growth and progress in the Lutheran church in the state. Of special interest has been the report of the board of trustees of Newberry college, owned and op erated by the synod in cooperation with other Southern synods, with the recommendation of the execu tive board relative to the continu ation of intercollegiate athletics. Represening St. John’s Lutheran church of this city at the conven tion have been: R. W. Boland, Rob ert Powell, E. E. Smith, and the Rev. James C. Dickert, pastor. Military Bail, Banquet Feb. 29 >. The event will begin at 4 o’clock in the,, afternoon and continue on with the banquet and dancing in the eve ning. The main guest. Major Generali A. G. Paxton, will be honored by the battalion with C company the honoring unit. General Paxton as commanding general of the 31st in fantry division, now assigned at Fort ‘Jackson, will be the guest speaker at the banquet for the cadets and their dates.
