Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Dav enport, Sr., are expecting their son, Alva Davenport, and Mrs. Daven port of Washington, D. C., this week for the holidays. Mrs. J. M. Bozard, Mrs. Arthur League, Misses Mildred Bozard and Hilda Oxner were Monday visitors in Greenville. Pfc. Pope Oxner of Fort Jack- * son, is spending the holidays withr his parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Ox ner. Mr. and Mhs. Harmon Murrah, Jr., and Judy, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Murrah and family attended the Murrah-Gregory wedding in Whit mire Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Lambert are leaving over the week-end for a trip t6 West Virginia to visit rela tives. Sunday guests of Mrs. J. J. Ab rams were Miss Doris Abratns and Miss Lila Arms of Greenville, Mr. and Mrs. James Adams and Mrs. Mary Henderson of Anderson. To Have Rehearsal All characters and choir members of the tableau are requested to be on hand for a complete dress re hearsal tonight at 6 o’clock at Jo anna school. « Christmas Party One of the pre-Christmas parties was held last Tuesday evening at Epworth Methodist church. Mem bers of the WSCS and the ladies Ever-Ready class came together for their annual gathering. The deco rations were in keeping with the Yuletide season and the gaily wrapped gifts were piled high un der the lighte dtree. Miss Willena Lovelace led the hour of entertainment. Refresh ments of a congealed salad, sand wiches, cheese biscuits, candies and coffee were served buffet style to the 48 ladies present. Gifts were exchanged before leaving. Murrah-Grpgory A wedding of much interest to the community was that of Miss Alma Cleo Murrah, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Murrah, to Bobby Gene Gregory of Whitmire. The vows were spoken at high noon De cember 10, at the First Baptist church in Whitmire. Rev. Paul H. Bullington, pastor of the bride, of ficiated using the double ring cere mony. The church was decorated in white gladioli and candelabra. A program of wedding music was rendered by Mrs. Russell Gilliam, organist, and Mrs. Paul Bulington, vocalist. The bride’s only attendant was her sister, Mrs. Rayon Mitchell, of Newberry. The bride was given in marriage by her father, H. G. Murrah, of Newberry. She wore a grey suit of gabardine with brown accessories. She carried a white satin Bible top ped with a white orchid and carna-1 tions, showered with white ribbons. Following the ceremony the young couple received in the ves tibule of the church. After a hon eymoon to Atlanta Mr. and Mrs. j Gregory will make their home in i Whitmire. This is a three-act drama with 14 char acters assisted by a choir of 10 voices under the direction of Mrs. Lavinia Cooley. The public is cor dially invited. ‘The Beloved Exile” will be pre sented by the young people of the Baptist church Sunday, December 23, at T:30 o’clock with 9 charac ters. Preceding the play the jun ior and combined choirs under the direction of Miss Mary E. Fowler of Newberry, will present the Christmas story in music and chor al reading. * *- The membership of the Presbyte rian church enjoyed their Christ mas celebration last night at Jo anna club. The play, "Behold the Child,” was presented, gifts ex changed and refreshments served. laleraMdiatM Enjoy Party Fourteen Intermediates of Ep worth Methodist church gathered m their department for a Christ mas party. The decorating commit tee, Misses Brenda O'Dell, Elaine Guyton and Ann Niver, had the room gaily decorated in the holi day spirit. The games were led by Dutsy Brock Reeves. Refreshments of assorted home made candies,, pop com, potato chips, cookies and soft drinks were served by the refreshment commit- Following the exchange of gifts, The Maltese Cross sub-district f the MYF met with Epworth hurch Monday night. Santa Claus To Arrira, Christ mas Tableau la Evening' .Saturday morning at 10 o’clock Santa Claus will arrive in Joanna and be driven through the com munity on the fire truck. He will be at the club house beginning at 3 o’clock for all the children of Jo anna employees up to 12 years of age to see and have a gift for each child. The Girl Scouts will sing Christmas carols. Immediately fol lowing this program well-filled baskets will be deliveted to each shut-in. The tableau on the “Life of Christ” will be at 7 o’clock at Jo anna school auditorium. This is under the direction of Mrs. J. C. Lambert, assisted by Mrs. Lavinia Cooley, Mrs. James Simpson, Miss Ruth Hair. The narrator is Earl Sineath; soloist, Mrs. Alex Craw ford, who will sing “0 Holy Night.” The combined choirs of the church es of the community will sing. The characters will be living still pictures and are as follows: Mary—Miss Charlen^Turner. Joseph—Vernon Garner. Shepherds— W. J. Hogan, Carl Franzen, and J. C. Lambert. Wise Men and Kings — Louis Murphy, Lester Hair and W. W.
