Correspondent »nd Representative Miss Joanne Reeder was the week-end guest of Miss Helen Phil lips at North Greenville college. Miss Phillips accompanied the choirs of the college at the piano in the presentation of a program of Christmas music Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. James Thomas and son, John Earle, attended a birth day dinner of the latter’s mother. Mrs. P. B. Hanvey, at Paris moun tain Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Barron and Walter Ragnery spent the week end in New Orleans, La. Mrs. J. L. Abrams, Linda and Jimmy and Joyce Crouch visited Mr. and Mrs. P. L. Attaway- in Whitmire Sunday. Mrs. Rudolph Prater, Mrs. John Gaskin and Miss aye Gaskin were visitors in Laurens Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Hair, Bobby, Hair, Mrs. Rolfe Clark and Derrill Johnson were visitors in Greenville Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Mack Brown and children visited Henry Brown in Newberry Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Rushton of Spartanburg, were Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Thomas. Mrs. Fred. iL. Ross. Lane and Judy, Mrs. Cecil O’Dell, Jeff and Sue, were Friday visitors in Char lotte, N. C. Jimmy Stewart of Wofford col lege, spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tot Stewart. On Sunday Jimmy, LeGrande Shealy and Emily McAbee of Clin ton, visited Miss Helen Phillips at North Greenville Junior college. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond O’Dell of Columbia, visited Mr. and Mrs. J. D. O’Dell Sunday. Friends of Robert L. Thomas will be interested to know he is now stationed at Parris Island. Miss Azalee White of Whitmire, •was recently an over-night guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Abrams. L. H. Nichols of Aiken, is visit ing his niece. Mrs. Harold Addison and Mr. Addison. Mr. and Mrs. Reginald Rushton and ahildren. Mr. and Mrs. Otis Hueble and children spent Sunday •in Spartanburg with Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Rushton. church will ^present a Christmas choral service. This will be under the direction of Miss Mary E. Church of God Dedication A special service will be held at the Church of God’s new building Sunday at 2:30. The purpose of this service is to dedicate the lot given' by Joanna Mills and the temporary tabernacle recently built. Birthday Party When birthdays of patients roll around the Joanna hospital takes on a festive air. Monday at noon Bud O’Dell was surprised when the staff and his family followed Lane and Judy Ross and Suzanne O’Dell pushing a large birthday cake, entered his room singing hap py birthday. The cake had a large red candle and was the centerpiece of the gaily decorated table. Bud received lovely wrapped gifts from the little girls and the cake was cut and served to Mr. and Mrs. Cecil O’Dell, Mrs. Fred Ross, Judy and Lane Ross, Suzanne O’Dell and Mrs. G. N. Foy. Honors Birthday On Saturday afternoon Miss Bar bara Jo Addison was hostess to ten invited guests celebrating her 10th birthday. The group attended, the early movie and upon returning, to the honoree’s home enjoyed tele vision. A The lovely birthday cake, decor ated in pink and green with burn ing candles, was used as the cen terpiece for the white covered table. Each guest remembered Barbara with a gift which she op ened and passed. Ffevctrs were packages of lollipops. Barbara’s mother, Mrs. Harold Addison, assisted by Mrs. Leroy ouch, served hot dogs, pickles,) potato chips, cookies and drinks. Q With The Sick Friends of W. E. Bragg of near j Clinton, will be interested to know he has returned to his home fol lowing a week of hospitalization at Hays hospital. The friends of Bud O’Dell will) regret to learn he is a patient at Joanna hospital for treatment. Joe Anderson is quite ill follow ing a stay at Hays hospital. Christinas Singing Sunday evening beginning at 7:30 the Junior choir and combined (adult choirs of Joanna Baptist Foundation Presents Tableau On December 22 at Joanna school auditorium the Joanna Foundation will sponsor a tableau telling the story of the birth of Jesus. The characters are adults of the com munity, four small children as an gels, and Earl Sineath as the nar rator. The work is being super vised by a commitee of four: Mrs. J. C. Lambert, Mrs. Lavinia Cooley, Mrs. James Simpson and Miss Ruth Hair. The public is cordially in vited to attend. Woman’s Society Meets The Woman’s Society of Chris tian Service held its December meeting Friday night at the church. The president, Mrs. J. W. Giles, presided over the business session which preceded the program. Mrs. Tot Stewart presented the devo tional thoughts‘and Mrs. Hartnon Murrah, Jr., rendered *a solo.' “Lit tle Lord Jesus.” Mrs. J- L. The decorations were the tradi tional Christmas colors and a light ed tree in the center of a long table overlaid in white and loaded with gaily wrapped gifts. The devotional was given by Mrs. James Mitchell and consisted of Christmas carols, reading of the Christmas story in unison and prayer for peace. Mrs. Alex Craw ford rendered two vocal solos, “This is My Father’s World,” and "Thou Didst Leave Thy Throne,” accompanied at the piano by Miss Joyce Frady. The program chairman, Mrs. Harold Murphy, directed the show ing of the film, “Progress of Bap tist Work in Brazil." The program closed with a chain of prayers for all foreign missionaries, certain designated ones and peoples of all lands. Mrs. E. J. Willingham presided during the business session and an nounced that 80 were present for the recent study course. At this anmial Christmas party and meet ing combined 32 members and 2 honored guests were present. Mrs. John E. Smith, superintendent of Reedy River association, and Mrs. Mabel Moorhead were presented gifts. Each member received a gift. The hostesses, Mrs. D. J. Buch anan, Miss Fannie Copeland, Mrs. Lewis Murphy and Mrs. Otis Mur phy, served fruit cake, toasted nuts and coffee. Broad St. Phone 12 Woman's Club Moating Last Thursday evening a large number of members gathered at Joanna club for the annual Christ mas party of the Woman’s club. The president, Mrs. E. J. Willing ham, presided over the business hour. The home decorations prizes were announced as follows: 1st prize, $15 cash, presented by Jo anna Mills; 2nd prize, $10 cash, presented by Joanna Foundation; 3rd prize, $5 cash, presented by the Woman’s club. This is a com munity project and it is hoped as many as possible will join in the decorations. The program chairman, Mrs. i Lavinia Cooley, presented a pan- tomine, “The Nativity,” with the reader being Mrs. Cecil O’Dell. Those taking part were Mesdames I Nathan Brazel, Edwin Thomas, | James Simpson, Louis Murphy, R. G. Carr, Walter Fulmer, Ervin Stroud, Frances Giles, Eugene Bishop, Carl Franzen, Vernon Gar ner, Earl Arthur, Rudolph Prater, Rolfe Clark, Misses Ruth Hair, Kittie Mae # Moseley, and Willena Lovelace. Immediately following the pro gram members of the executive committee served a congealed sal ad, chicken salad sandwiches and Russian tea. A novelty feature of the meeting was selling slices of cake, the one buying the piece with a dime in it is to bring a cake to the next meet ing. This cake will in turn be sold as before and so on. i Each member was remembered with a gaily wrapped package from an appointed table with a large Santa Claus going down the chimney as a centerpiece.
