Judge Pruitt To Hear Arguments In Bailey Case Laurens, Nov. 15.—The two daugh ters of the late Joseph A. Bailey of Clinton—Mrs. Helen Bailey Obering and Mrs. Alden Bailey Hayes —are favored in a report by the court’s special referee, Calho’in A. Mayes of Greenwood, in two suit* regarding the disposition of their father’s es tate. The amount of $500,000 in real' estate, interest in M. S. Bailey St\ Son, Bankers, stocks in the Lydia t and Clinton Cotton Mills, cash and' personal property, is involved, ac cording to the 140-page report filed by the referee. Exceptions in the report were im mediately filed by attorneys for the defendants. Blackwell, Sullivan 6c Wilson of Laurens, and Willard D, Campbell of Columbus, Ohio. A bearing by the plaintiffs' attorneys, O. L Long and Babb and Babb of Laurens, and C. T. Graydon of Co- lumia, was asked for Wednesday be fore Judge J. B. Pruitt of Anderson, presiding this week over general ses sions court in Laurens. Attorneys for the plaintiffs said they would move I to dismiss the appeal and for an or der affirming the report of the ref eree. If a dicition was not reached yesterday it is expected that the : ourt will set a subsequent date for arguments in the case representing both the plaintiffs and defendants. The referee’s report grew out of. two suits filed in connection with the will of the late W. J. Bailey, Clinton banker and industrialist, who died April 11, 194* W J. Bailey was a surviving brother of Joseph A. Bai ley, who, upon his death, left a wi dow and two children, the letter be-, mg the plaintiffs in the second suit! | Mrs Baiiex claimed her dower in terest in the estate of her husband, according to the report, and made a full settlement of her interests with W. J. Bailey, the executor. In his report Mr. Mays consolidat ed the two cases in order to bring out the essential points in both. The first case was an action for ■■■ ADDRESS GIVEN AT GRANGE CELEBRATION (continued from page seven) Has welding machine and farm shop. In addition to project work. Rob ert Lee has gained fame as a mu sician. He hab participated in a string quartet which has performed at several state events. Betty’s work has been in Home Improvement. The Burns home is a shining example and speaks for itself on what Betty has done with the help of her family. Any of you who have visited the Bums home know the improvements that have been made to the interior of the home—and mostly by members of the family. Betty has covered furniture, pa pered walls, made curtains and draperies and many other things too numerous to mention. In addition to subject work, Bet ty has been a leader in council work. She has served as an officer of the county organization. All of these club members have tried to live up to thier motto and “Make the Best Better.” I’m sure their accomplishments will con tinue to develop the 4-H’s—which stand for the vital things of human existence — Head, Heart, Hands, Health. Congratulations parents, leaders, and friends, for encouraging and assisting them in becoming winners of these high awards. Pfc. Hornsby Given Army Discharge Pfc. Leo Hornsby, Jr., of this city, who has been stationed in Indiana the past 14 months in the army medical corps, has been honorably discharged and has returned to his home here. The complaint alleges, among oth-» ,er things, that William J. Bailey, while acting as executor of the es tate of J. A. Bailey, had acquired the interest of J. A.
